The telecommunications satellite called “Omid,” or “Hope,” in Farsi was launched after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave the order to proceed, according to a report on state radio.

I believe a translation of that statement included ol' Mahmoud saying "I got your hope, right here."

The booster(read a-bomb sized part) and the communications satellite are now orbiting. It’s quite simple to de-orbit once you have achieved orbit status — you just throw on the brakes at the right point.

Point defense now possible and operational - for testing

... the news that BAE Systems has delivered a functional, 32-megajoule Electro-Magnetic Laboratory Rail Gun (32-MJ LRG) to the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va., is exciting. Installation of the laboratory launcher is currently underway, and according to BAE, this is the first step toward the Navy’s goal of developing a tactical 64-megajoule ship-mounted weapon.
