1999 MSU Arsonist Sentenced Today
WQTX ^ | 2/5/2009

The government says a 20-year prison sentence for a woman who committed arson at Michigan State University would be the toughest punishment ever in a case of so-called eco-terrorism. Marie Mason is due in federal court at 9 a.m. today.

The explosion and fire at Michigan State's Agriculture Hall in 1999 was a protest against genetically modified crops. Damage exceeded $1 million. Prosecutors want a 20-year prison sentence for the 47-year-old Cincinnati woman.

Mason's lawyer says that would be extreme. Mason has admitted other acts from 1999 through 2003, including fires at homes under construction in southeastern Michigan and Indiana. Her ex-husband is in prison for nine years. Two other people will be sentenced for minor roles.

I heard this on the radio today.
Her husband was sentenced last October.
The Detroit Free Press had a sympathetic article.

Ecoterrorists should be hanged.

Well now, that seems too small a sentence, but you know what?

Your ping brought the first smile of the day to me.

At least one slime ball is getting a little justice.

Thanks happinesswithoutpeace.

: )

Better than many sentences we have seen handed down over the years for this form of terrorism.

Yes, although I must say in the last years the eco-terrorists have been sentenced to hefty time.

Goooood Deal.

Thanks. I looked but didn’t find the sentence. The MSM seems uninterested.

22 Years sounds about right, good for Judge Paul Maloney. The Family (eco-terrorists prosecuted in OR and WA got off with much lighter sentences, it’s a shame this judge didn’t hear those cases.

In federal prison, 20 years means 20 years - she won’t be any kind of terrorist when she gets out!
