Another senator lines up behind 'Fairness Doctrine'

WASHINGTON – Another Democratic U.S. senator has gone on record as supporting the reinstatement of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," adding, "I feel like that's gonna happen."

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., told radio host and WND columnist Bill Press yesterday when asked about whether it was time to bring back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine": "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it's called the Fairness Standard, whether it's called something else – I absolutely think it's time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place."

Asked by Press if she could be counted on to push for hearings in the Senate this year "to bring these (radio station) owners in and hold them accountable," she replied: "I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that's gonna happen. Yep."

Meanwhile, as WND has previously reported, other Democratic legislators have tried to claim talk about a reintroduction of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" is merely conspiracy-mongering by right-wing talk radio and its partisan cheerleaders.

But other Democrats in the Senate and House – and even a few Republicans – have made no secret of their support for such legislation.

"For many, many years, we operated under a Fairness Doctrine in this country," Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., told Albuquerque radio station KKOB last year. "I think the country was well-served. I think the public discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since."

Accountability is another socialist spin word for denying freedom of speech.

bringing accountability to the airwaves

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that expressly prohibits the United States Congress from making laws ...that infringe the freedom of speech, infringe the freedom of the press...--wikipedia

But you know better, don't ya, Lil' Debbie?

Just remember. Stabenow can be intimidated into backing down. We’ve done it a few times with big issues.

Implementation of the UNfairness Doctrine will be the catalyst that will set off the brewing Conservative revolution in this country...

I don't think Sean mentioned this yesterday, read about her husband, Tom Athans. He is deeply involved in liberal talk radio.

Well, if they want “balance” let's give it to them in spades. Every liberal tv news outlet, and every newspaper throughout the country should be shouldered with the same “standard” of balance. Considering the only thing we essentially control are the radio airwaves, this would be a net gain for conservatives.

Got to LOVE this non-photoshopped image of Stabenow standing next to a sign that she was using to diss Bush...

You'd think someone would have told her how ridiculous she looked! LOL!

"And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place."

Tell ya what, Deb. Look in the mirror and start there. Once you've finished with that chore, move on to government. That should keep you plenty busy. In the mean time, the airwaves are doing just fine without you screwing them up like you folks do with everything else you mess with.

Of course Bingaman thinks "the country" was well served when the only voices heard by the masses were those supporting HIS positions and reelections.

Will this include the requirement that half the ‘journalists’ on MSM be conservative? A conservative response to all the leftist reports? Or is this only pro-liberal response on conservative talk radio?

This fairness doctrine crap is just yet another attempt to get the liberal adjenda out. Nationwide liberal talk shows are taking a beating while folks like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity,Laura Ingram,Mark Levin Rusty Humphries, Glen Beck, etal have their viewers & listeners growing. Kinda strange when they ALL INVITE liberal politicians & icons on their shows to debate the issues & can’t get them to appear and yet these same a$$hats are trying to legislate/mandate a counter point of view, to put liberals on shows that they fail to appear on when invited. WHAT COMPLETE IDIOTS, they don’t even realize the falseness of their arguement & the vast hypocracy of their position

I bet there is money in that stimulus bill for Air America.

The Republicans should try to find it.
