ALERT: "They've Cut A Deal With Three Of Our Guys" [Byron York]
National Review ^

Posted on 02/06/2009 10:23:52 AM PST by Blue Turtle

Just got off the phone with an influential Republican senator. I asked how things stood with the stimulus, and he answered instantly, "They've cut a deal with three of our guys. They're delaying us from offering amendments. I suspect that as soon as they've got it written, they will offer it as an amendment, vote on it, and that will be it." He didn't have details on what the deal might be, but most Republicans seem to suspect it will involve relatively small cuts — and very little change in the price tag of the bill from the House version — that will be touted as a major bipartisan compromise. My senator suspects — hopes? — that no more than four Republicans will vote for the bill.

There is still people coming on here and other sites bragging they didn’t vote for McCain. Bob Barr cost us NC and Indiana. I’m certain ACORN cost us Ohio and probably Florida.

I tried to email Collins and it kicked back — mailbox full. I sent to her aid this morning, and just faxed Specter.

Every one of our reps had better grow a steel set, they are the only one’s holding the line on our freedoms and country right now.

What is with them putting an ammendment into the bill making it illegal to discuss religion on college campuses?

I've been out all afternoon. Is this something different from not allowing construction funds for schools at which religious activities take place?

If there are those bragging about not voting for McCain, there ain't many. Certainly not enough to justify a generic rant against conservative 'purists'.

I do have a problem with soreheads(not you) coming on and using a handful on the fringes as a reason to broad-brush the entire social conservative movement. Usually, these soreheads have a history of ranting against conservatives on other issues. Seems they're always looking for reasons.

Anyway now is NOT the time.

Thanks for the link. It’s a nice overview of what I’ve missed!

I should have mentioned it was about half way down the page. Looks like the only Republican who didn’t stand with the GOP on DeMints ammendment was Snowe...... sigh!

A fellow I work with says he called his office and found out that Lugas was going to vote for the stimulus. That’s how I found out.

Get in your internal combustion powered car and go to your nearest Republican headquarters. Don’t stop hollering until someone notices the menacing taxpayer’s general demeanor.

If I were Steele I would call the 3 suspects up and tell them that support would go to another candidate in the primary, and even if they won their primaries, he would make certain they lose. Rather have an enemy you know that a scumbag you can’t trust.

Seriously, it's time to demand action from the RNC. This is disguisting. And point out that they made it impossible for the people they represent to reach them and voice their opinion.

Here is what I sent to Spectre’s staff.

Don’t you dare vote for it. If I weren’t a gentleman I would ...

I never voted against a Republican but will campaign against any who would sign on to the monstrosity before us.

Reagan sat down with Gingrich and O’Neil for over 30 days to hammer out a bi-partisan bill in 1984 (date).

Don’t don’t it!

Thank you for reading this far. Now would be a good time to stand up and holler, “ I’m a Republican”, until you believe it!

MWT - - I agree.

And if, to my surprise, he doesn't go all wobbly and lead the GOP surrender (read "COMPROMISE"), I'll be the first to say that my forecast was in error.

I am thinking of the era of the Hippie. Peace, Love & Rock & Roll, Acid, SDS, Weather Underground, Kent State. Make Love, Not War. Blah, blah, blah.

Every neighborhood had more than 1 family whose kid took off for parts unknown. The parents didn’t know how to handle this new type of rebellion. They countered it with anger.

Bill Ayers liked to say “Kill all the parents.” (or something like that) But there was a very real hatred of anyone older than 30.

I liked the music, the beads and fringe, and since I hated a bra more than you would know my everyday wordrobe consisted of levis, halter and a levi workshirt. But I drew the line at not shaving my legs or under my arms. That was just so gross.

~LOL~ Hillary even went the non-shaving route until Bill lost an election and his handlers told her to clean up her act and her body...

Well, I called his office and was informed that he had not taken a position on the bill. I asked the staffer if Lugar had even read the bill at that point. He was ready to hang up on me, but we continued on with a conversation that I initiated. Lugar needs to hear from his constituents. He's as wishy-washy as they come these days. Have you checked out his website? For heaven's sake, his first concern is whether Hoosiers have applied for Earned Income Tax Credits. That's not going to solve our problems.

I was referring to the fact that Maine has two RINOS as Senators.

Here in South Carolina, it is bad enough that we have ubber RINO Pandsey Graham to deal with. But at least we have ubber conservative Jim DeMint for balance.

If we had two RINOS like Grahamnesty, I might go and shoot myself :)
