Conservatives Launch 'Doonesbury' Alternative

Conservatives Launch 'Doonesbury' Alternative @ 10:59 am by Jeremy P. Jacobs

Seeking to take on what it dubs “liberal comedians and cartoonists,” ConservativeHQ.com launched its own right-minded comic strip.

The strip, titled “Lickskillet,” aims to be conservatives’ alternative to “Doonesbury.” Richard Viguerie, the longtime conservative strategist and founder of the website, said that since President Barack Obama’s election, liberal comedians have had a difficult time poking fun at Washington.

"Liberal comedians and cartoonists have expressed great anguish at the rise of Barack Obama to the presidency, because having a perfect president makes it impossible to make fun of Washington," Viguerie said in a statement. " 'The Gentleman from Lickskillet' is conservatives' response.

"The strip is for people who can't help but laugh at the politicians in Washington," he added.

The comic strip focuses on the life of the fictional Congressman Randall Dill and his family. The strip is now published daily after an initial run three weeks ago that satirized Obama’s inauguration.

The first two strips have focused on senatorial appointments, seeking to poke fun at political dynasties (read: the Kennedys) and governors receiving kickbacks for their appointments (read: former Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich).

The strip is authored by Steven Allen — a “longtime Washington insider” — and cartoonist Kevin Tuma.

Day by Day is funnier, from what I’ve seen so far.

day by day seems funnier than the lolskillet.

don’t try to answer something by imitating it. make it 1000 times better.

Both seem to try too hard.

I read either, and I know I’m reading a political strip every time.

And the characters are too 1 dimensional. Like they exist just to give the political message and a punchline.

I’m with you.

Love the Mallard.

Way out front on the obama ridicule.

Perfect president, eh? Liberals are always out of touch with reality.

Mr. Viguerie, allow me to introduce Mr. Chris Muir and Bill Tinsley and their fine strips “Day by Day” and “Mallard Fillmore”.

I loved Cox & Forkum but they retired from the cartoon business.

The Leftersons by Colin Hayes was pretty funny, but that one is also gone now.

Mallard Filmore is cool but I forsee even Mallard not being around much longer as the 0bamaführer consolidates his power.
