U.S. Senate Republicans are not planning to try and use procedural maneuvers to delay passage of a proposed $789 billion economic stimulus bill, the party's leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, said on Wednesday.

McConnell said there was a widespread feeling in the minority party that they "ought to vote and move on." He spoke after congressional negotiators said they had reached a deal on the massive package of spending and tax cuts to try and rescue the flailing economy.

I appreciate the sentiment. How much of the Republican agenda was blocked by petty Demoncrap maneuvers?

However, THIS IS NOT THE TIME!

If there is any way in which this can be stopped, it must be STOPPED.

Let's flood his offices! Not only his DC office, but ALL of them!!

It’s over. Now watch and see how many GOP senators cross over and vote for this “improved” bill.

Vote out all of these bums.

Well, this certainly doesn’t seem to jibe with Rush’s commentary today. Doesn’t seem like there is any fight left. Do we have to wait for these dinosaurs to die? I’d kinda like to be around to see the payback, but with crap like this, I’m guessing my children and grandchildren might see the Resurrection, if it comes to pass................

That's not news. Senate republicans didn't do half of what they could have to delay getting the bill this far. Unanimous agreement to shorten time between passing cloture and voting on the bill; absence of objection to taking a vote on the bill, etc. Virtually zero procedural opposition.

I agree with your assessment. The most important part is to maintain party discipline. When it goes south, make sure that there is no way that the GOP can be tarred in ANY WAY with it. It's going to pass one way or the other.

And when, but not if, we get back in power...do whatever needs to be done to ensure socialism can NEVER get back in power!

(I'm actually thinking about lowering my tax bracket and becoming a social studies teacher...work to change a few skulls full of mush for the next generation)

Mitch is a poor leader and spokesperson. He exudes what is lacking in the GOP. He is stiff, like he has a permanent corn cob up the o holio and is a poor communicator. A walking corpse just doesn’t get folks on board.

He can’t even hold it together now. It is going to take a whole lotta different acting pubbies to compete with the RATs.

Prediction: When Porkulus fails to stimulate the economy, Zero will call for an even bigger stimulus package. (Zero has already said that FDR didn’t spend enough to break the Great Depression!) At least a few of our brain-damaged, Kool-aid guzzling Congresscritters will breathlessly support Zero’s request and file the Porkulus II (or Porkulus Maximus) bill. This I predict by the end of this year, if not sooner ... before the end of summer!

But then the crystal ball goes dark. All I can smell is sulphur ... and hot metal ... but no images come through.

Anybody know why that is ...?

Agree ... First remove their committee assignments, then oust them if that didn’t do it. No point in carrying the extra baggage nor siphoning money from the others.

I fear no one has the balls to actually do it.

What I want to know is, WHERE is the money coming from right now? Are they simply printing it, or in the case of electronic funds, just adding zeros to the balance? Or are they borrowing it from China or Saudi Arabia or someone? I’m afraid I don’t understand the mechanics of this cash transfusion.

The government is guaranteeing untold amounts of debt on the full faith and credit of the United States. Previously, when times called for it, more and more treasury bills were sold. China has bought up a buttload of them. However, even China isn't buying them any more. Now we are left with empty promises not backed up by real value. In short, there will be money, but there is no value behind it. Here's where rampant inflation comes it ---government printing money on worthless paper. Prices go up because of too many worthless dollars chasing too few goods (that people are willing to take worthless paper for).....

In the last century before WWII Germans did this --- their citizens ended up burning the paper to keep warm......

HE leads a coalition in the Senate and is not dictator. If I were him, I would be doing what you say, but only caucus votes can make changes.

Steele could be raising hell with no consequences, and saying quietly to the RINOs, you vote for, your funds from the RNC are disappeared, permanently. That's what the donks do, they cut off party support. That way, no one is the wiser until they are gone.

That's why I said, I doubt anybody has the balls to take decisive action.

The American people gave Obama the job by a pretty comfortable margin, they elected 58 Democrats to the Senate and a clear majority to the House.

They have their say once every 2 years, this is what they said they wanted.

Any polls against the this or that stimulus are bogus. The poll that counted was last Nov 4th.

I screamed it and screamed it. McConnell will roll over like the dog that he is. We needed new blood.

I'm with you.

The insurance companies will love being able to say the 'Government' won't okay a procedure. Takes the liability off them and the medical community at large.

Unless, of course, the government finds a way to reward the trial lawyers.

I'm sure a lot of people who know just how bad Social Security is will also be pleased at being able to use dead people to backstop the problems there.

Life sucks.

My mail to Mitch:

Mr. McConnell,

With regard to the following quote,

“U.S. Senate Republicans are not planning to try and use procedural maneuvers to delay passage of a proposed $789 billion economic stimulus bill, the party’s leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, said on Wednesday.

McConnell said there was a widespread feeling in the minority party that they “ought to vote and move on.” He spoke after congressional negotiators said they had reached a deal on the massive package of spending and tax cuts to try and rescue the flailing economy.”

Sir, saddling our children and grandchildren with this kind of debt — pushed through by cutthroat Democrats and 3 idiots who must think the “R” by their name stands for “Retreat” is nothing short of criminal. As a vocal and enthusiastic supporter of yours, I would consider it nothing short of dereliction of duty for you to do anything other than use EVERY means you have to stop or delay this nefarious bill.

Elections in 2010 and beyond will be won or lost based on the way you act this week. Prior to the ridiculous statement above, you’ve shown some backbone this week. Don’t go soft now.

Get in there and fight for us. Do your job.

Whatever action you choose, we won’t forget. And you’re too young to retire.

Very truly yours,

kimmie7
