Lincoln was a war criminal. In a number of ways. Read Thomas DiLorenzo’s LINCOLN UNMASKED. Well documented.

Is Abraham Lincoln a Great President or the Greatest President?

Why is Stephen Colbert writing this website's poll questions?

He was the father of the American nation. Before 1860, most people saw themselves first as citizens of their state and only then as Americans. After 1865, it was clear there was only one nationality: American.

A big swing towards the federal government. Woo....hoo?

“how about
not a great president?”

Deo Vindice.

LeoWindhorse, despite the media frenzy surrounding Lincoln, you make a most excellent point. There seems to be an absence of reporting about the harm he did.

John Adams was not the greatest president, but he was the greatest man to be president.

Why do you rank John Adams ahead of George Washington as "greatest man"?

” After 1865, it was clear there was only one nationality: American.”

What a crime. Is that something to rate him as the greatest presidents?

Washington was a great man and the greatest president. He set a standard few have equaled.

“They wanted him to be a king, and he refused. “

Even more. When he appeared before congress to say the war was over.. he presented his sword to them. “My job is done.”

He set the tone for the military keeping out of politics. Something NO other country can claim.

He was a great MAN before he was the great President he became.

Harry S. Truman used technology to it’s very limit of destructive deterrence. He faced the hardest decision any president ever had to make and chose the right path. He had brass gonads. Obama would puss out on something that detrimental. Harry’s the man!

Washington was the greatest, but Lincoln and Reagan are not far behind. Lincoln’s greatness and contributions are hard to see for those whose vision is distorted by regional feelings, but the Confederate-secessionist movement represented a political and moral evil of such proportions that it threatened national existence. It was no honest expression of a legitimate popular discontent that Lincoln faced, but a brazen political power grab that would have thrown our nation into permanent anarchy and European domination. Lincoln’s extermination of this danger with doing as little damage as possible to the rule of law should earn the gratitude of all unbiased conservative Americans. In what he did for the nation, he truly was a second Washington.

He organized what basically was militia into a military that defeated the best military in the world.

? The British forces during the Revolutionary War were conscripts. Raw conscripts.

The British unit that came over for the War of 1812 (when the US invaded Canada) - they were much better: many were veterans of the Peninsular War.

But the redcoats who fought Washington were raw - Britain had no kind of military force until Sir John Moore's reforms kicked in, which was in the first decade of the 19th Century.

Unless Washington spent his time fighting Frederick the Great and his Prussians, he did not defeat "the best military in the world".

We are the UNITED STATES of America, state first then country, of course since we are one big happy family there is not much use for States when all we need is a big brother watching over us.

And big government was born...(under Lincoln)

Nothing would have changed a bit under Lincoln's term had the secessionists not agitated, and sometimes cheated, their way into into state secessions of dubious Constitutional legitimacy for grievances of no Constitutional significance. The last thing Lincoln wished to do upon taking office was to disturb or alter the federal republic his predecessors left him.

I'd by far rather have Washington running things than Lincoln. Slavery needed to die, absolutely. States needed to be invaded and burned to ashes? - a bad precedent to set especially considering recent elections...

Bingo! Remember too in camp at Valley Forge when his officers wanted to revolt and march on Congress, he reprimanded them like a father such that he reduced them to tears

George Washington is the greatest president by miles and miles. He saved the republic and then set it on the correct course. Tyrants like KKK Woodrow Wilson and the fascist FDR soiled the office and set the stage for the current dirtbag Hussein.
