I understand giving your kid a cell phone...
But why do these kids NEED camera phones or whatever they have that can kick these file around?
I blame the parents...and no, my kids have simple cell phones that they can talk on AND NOTHING MORE.
I wish we could easily do that here. It’s very hard in Australia now to find a cellphone that doesn’t have a camera.
Most of my students have one because they travel to and from school on public transport and it’s a safety issue. And they have cameras because they come with cameras. And they misuse them a lot - we’ve had two major ‘scandals’ (front page news stories, first item on the network news each night) in the last year or so caused by our students filming each other on their cameras, uploading it to youtube and the media finds it, and because we are an ‘elite’ school decides a squabble between two friends is newsworthy.
I have seen them be useful though - one of our senior boys used his camera phone to snap a man he thought was showing an unsavoury interest in some of the junior boys during a sports lesson.
Probably too much work to find a phone without a camera on it. You can turn a lot of this stuff off though. Texting is pretty handy though. Even when I had a cell phone I could send media messages on I didn’t send anything. Definitely not anything like this.
