Gruesome killing poses another test for US Muslims

ERIC GORSKI, AP Religion Writer February 21, 2009

The crime was so brutal, shocking and rife with the worst possible stereotypes about their faith that some U.S. Muslims thought the initial reports were a hoax.

The harsh reality of what happened in an affluent suburb of Buffalo, N.Y. — the beheading of 37-year-old Aasiya Hassan and arrest of her estranged husband in the killing — is another crucible for American Muslims.

Here was a couple that appeared to be the picture of assimilation and tolerance, co-founders of a television network that aspired to improve the image of Muslims in a post 9-11 world.

Sorry—the real hoax here is that there is such as thing as moderate Islam. Just a bunch of timebombs waiting to be “radicalized”.

Muslims in the USA have a choice. become peaceful Americans, or buy the ticket home.

America first. Islam second.

If that doesn't fit YOU as a Muslim:

Call American Airlines and " Head OUT!"

I totally disagree. I do not want to give the government the power to punish or deport people for their beliefs. Only for criminal acts that infringe on another person’s rights.

While I am a Christian and therefore “anti-Islam” in the sense that I oppose Islamic beliefs as being un-Biblical, un-Christian, and blasphemous, I refuse to accept the idea that Islam is an inherently violent religion. Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Shintos, and Jews all had such things said about them, and they turned out to be untrue.

The need to prosper in a market economy is what forces religions to adapt and become less radical, less violent. That’s the answer. Not more war or division. If the entire Middle East was made up of stable free market economies, there would be no wars there. Jews and Muslims could hate eachother all they wanted to but they’d still be forced by market realities to cooperate and get along.

It gets me sick the way he drive by media tries to cover up for anti American/anti western ideologies such as Islam.

In keeping with the tepidness and idiocy of the drive by media's whitewash of this typical Islamic honor killing, I present The Nose on your Face docu parody of this horrific crime, presented on youtube Islamic Rageboy Addresses Muslim tv exec's beheading of his wife

[She]. . . said honor killing is a cultural and not religious phenomenon. She said it's practiced in some Muslim countries but not others and is present in nations with people of other religions.

I hear this often in "defense" of Islam but I can only think of some sects of Hindus who have such a thing. Most religions had a period of time when women were treated harshly or inequitably. However, the extreme of Islam seems unique.

To this day, Hindus in India engage in honor killings, burn brides when dowries are not paid, casteism is part of religious dogma and ritual, and firebombing Christian houses of worship is not uncommon. Why should we import this culture?

Now, I will agree that I do not know 100% of my ancestors’ religion — but I don’t recall any troubling passages in the Vedas like the Koran has. I also do not know of any prophet in Hinduism that claimed he got verses from Satan like Mohammad.

Agreed.
Our First Amendment protects Freedom of Religion; and although I know Christ is the ONLY way - people have a right to worship as they please. There are blowhards in all religions (Hindu, Christianity, etc), but it is only the islamic 'religion' that has (un)holy books that encourage their adherents to commit murder and mayhem in their efforts to 'convert' the infidels (or in the case of this article - to encourage 'honor murders'). As such, I'd argue that islam does not merit First Amendment protection - and it should be explicitly excluded from being covered. It is suicidal for a nation to allow such a dogma to exist on its shores.
Again - as I've noted before - most muslims in this country are as 'good' and 'moral' as anyone -- the problem is that their professed beliefs are a 'ticking timebomb' - and no one is done any favors by burying their heads in the sand and pretending that these beliefs are compatible with a society that treasures freedoms.

I suggest you attempt to acquaint yourself with Islam a bit more. You can start with inventing skyjacking, running planes into buildings, bombing trains in Madrid and London, bombing girls schools in their home countries, trying to blow up an airport with propane cylinders, and beheading wives in Buffalo NY. For starters. There’s more.

Islam isn’t just a religion, it’s a system of laws, of government, of morals, of a way of life, and more. It’s a lot more - and it’s incompatible with freedom.

In terms of a culture and religions antithetical to all what America stands, Hinduism and Muslim share a lot in common.

The need to prosper in a market economy is what forces religions to adapt and become less radical, less violent. That’s the answer.

You're assuming islam is a religion. It isn't. It's a CULT. And at the head of that cult is mohammad. A psychopath. Considered by mohammadans as divine, the perfect man who must be emulated...and as for 'market economy' remember, the wealthiest arab nation, Saudi Arabia, follows sharia law. Public beheadings, removal of limbs, floggings...and goodness knows what else.

PROPHET OF DOOM

Adding my .02 - Muslims and Hindus are worlds apart, and Hindus have suffered torture, genocide, and slavery from the Muslims since before 1000 AD.

I have never heard of a Hindu “honor killing”, the caste system is something that can be explained but I do not have time right now (aside from the fact that its use is now falling apart and as currently practiced not based on the scriptural injuctions anyway), and as far as violence against Christians, much of it is either lies by the media - of course, anyone committing violence as you describe should be strongly punished. But keep in mind also that some of the “Christian” groups in India are fronts for Maoist and terrorists. Christian in name only.

Bride burnings, from what I have read, are perpetrated by Muslims as well, and have nothing - nada - to do with actual Hinduism, Hindu teachings, or history. It’s kind of like calling any crime by someone who is nominally a Christian (goes to church occasionally, or even lives in a community with a lot of Christians) who murders his wife a “Christian wife murder”.

I think you need some serious education about Islam teachings, Islamic history, and current events.

One gruesome crime does not a cultural or religious practice make.

I am very familiar with Hindu teachings, scripture and history. “Honor killings” are not part of any of them. Sure, there are crazy murderious Hindus just like there are crazy murderous Christians. Hindus or Christians who commut such horrible crimes are not worthy representatives of their respective faiths.

Additionally, neither Jesus Christ nor any of the saintly Hindu teachers ever authorize or teach such murder; in fact the opposite.

This gruesome beheading of a woman is not a TEST for the Muslim community, its a TEST for AMericans to wake up to the cultural threat posed by Muslims

Muslim culture is parasitic, and it always results in the killing of its host.
