WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, a board member of the National Rifle Association, announced Wednesday he will serve as co-chairman of a new task force on gun rights.
"I am afraid we could witness a significant tilt to the left on gun issues in the current climate in Washington and that has me greatly concerned, the Oklahoma Democrat said.
"I believe members of the Second Amendment Task Force will serve a critical role in preventing overreaching by those who would seek to enact anti-gun policies.
Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia will be the group's Republican co-chairman.
Boren said the task force will be charged with monitoring legislation regarding the Second Amendment during the 111th Congress.
He said it will act as a unified and proactive force to promote legislation that protects the Second Amendment and to fight legislation that poses a threat to citizens constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
As a member of the National Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association and co-chair of the Congressional Sportsmen Caucus, I am proud to co-chair this task force with Congressman Broun and to take a leadership role on these important issues on behalf of my fellow Oklahoma gun-owners, said Boren.
Other members of the task force were chosen, he said, after a thorough review was conducted of their voting records on Second Amendment issues, and working in close consultation with gun rights groups such as the NRA and Gun Owners of America.
Boren described the carefully selected group of lawmakers as true believers in the constitutional right for Americans to bear arms.
Other Democrats chosen for the group include Reps. Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania, Travis Childers of Mississippi, Brad Ellsworth of Indiana, Jim Matheson of Utah and Mike McIntyre of North Carolina.
Other Republicans include Reps. Rob Bishop of Utah, John Boozman of Arkansas, Steve King of Iowa and Steve Scalise of Louisiana.
The only one I’ve heard of is Boren. Somehow this is not what it seems. Or is this me just being paranoid?
But am I being paranoid enough?
Oklahoma seems to be leading the way on a lot of things right now. I hope the rest of the “red states” will follow in the Okies’ footsteps.
'Nuff said.
One way to avoid the “tilt” to the left on gun rights is to not let it happen at all, at any cost. Serve notice, name names and lets draw up teams.
I’m on the team with the guns. Put me in coach, I don’t smoke. Much. And my flash is minimal.
Pelosi tosses cold water on assault-weapon ban
U.S. Senate Votes to Uphold Second Amendment in Washington, D.C.
Senate Votes To Give DC Voting Rights
Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban
Some noteworthy articles about politics, foreign or military affairs, IMHO, FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
Mr. Boren’s purpose is to keep his Democrat butt in Congress.
He will oppose gun legislation to look good.
Just a liberal who knows he can’t be openly so in Oklahoma.
An “in the closet” liberal like Governor Brad Henry of OK.
We’re called Sooners for a reason.
Boren is a liberal, Pelosi-following dimwit. He is a “just as conservative as a Republican” Democrat who just happens to support Pelosi and Obama. This is all for show.
It is time for all REAL Americans to put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!!
“Boren is a liberal, Pelosi-following dimwit. He is a just as conservative as a Republican Democrat who just happens to support Pelosi and Obama. This is all for show.”
You can change Boren’s name to that of Mississippi’s Travis Childers and your statement is still 100% accurate with regard to Nancy’s Mississippi Buttboy Travis.
I may go buy another box of ammo today just to “celebrate”.
Thanks for the ping!
Steve King (R-Iowa, 5th) is as solidly conservative as you'll ever find.
That is good to hear!
