Police turn up heat on 'cannabis factory' seen by thermal camera ... only to find workshop STOVE
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 27th February 2009 | Chris Brooke

When an infra-red camera on the police helicopter identified a suspicious heat pattern coming from Colin Rowe's workshop, officers were convinced it was the site of a cannabis factory.

They obtained the necessary search warrant and forced the door to raid the property while the owner was out.

But instead of finding an illicit drugs operation, the officers discovered nothing more sinister than a wood-burning stove.

The heat source police regarded as highly suspicious was simply a stove used to warm the garage workshop where Mr Rowe restores cars in his spare time.

Not surprisingly Mr Rowe was furious when he returned home to find the damaged door and the warrant, which had been posted through his letterbox without an apology.

'I find it quite disturbing that Wild West Yorkshire Police can do what they want. I think it is disgraceful, I didn't think the police would treat anyone like this without good reason,' he said.

'There was a brush and shovel right by the door so, if they'd had any compassion, they would have at least swept up the mess.'

What, have respect for a citizen's property?

And as they always say, if you have nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear.

My only surprise is that they did not bill the homeowner for ‘causing police officers to put in overtime’, and arrest him for ‘willfully putting officers at risk’.

If he’d been Muslim, the cops would have left him alone. I wonder if citizens of the UK have thought about that.

And here I was thinking that the stuff grew - I didn't know you needed a factory for it!

And to think, I'm considering law enforcement as a line of work. You get morons everywhere, I guess.

Isn't untaxed carbon a bigger crime in the UK than growing cannabis? Those stupid cops just got the wrong warrant. And then they were too stupid to call in for the right one once they got there. They could have got this guy for a wood-burning stove!

I'm sure they'll realize their mistake and come back.

Sure, there was no pot there, but they uncovered an even more dangerous Global Warming factory.

“What, have respect for a citizen’s property? “

This guy’s lucky. In the US they shoot your dogs, trash your house, beat your wife up, shackle your children and sell your belongings to pay for their trouble. And that’s if they have the wrong house AND don’t find any dope.

Yes, but was it a pot-bellied stove?

Choose very carefully. You will tend to take on the characteristics of the majority of whatever industry you make your living at.

Is it even possible to work in law enforcement without learning to lie often and well?

if anything, the case could be made to the judge that the criteria for probable cause in issuing the warrant needs review

Furthermore, I'm beginning to get the same vibe out of those who defend the police as those who defend Islam.

“raid the property while the owner was out.”

He was probably over his cap and went out to “trade”
some credits. Insanity!

Whoever they got a warrant from was an idiot judge. The Supremes already ruled that those types of devices are a violation of the 4th Amendment. They violated his rights before they even went for a warrant, and the judge should have known that.

He could sue in Federal Court and it would be a slam dunk.

They thought the heat source was a GROW LIGHT for a cannabis farm/factory.

I imagine one might need a grow light for a semi tropical plant growing in the UK.

He will get fined for using an unauthorized heating source that can’t be taxed and for not using a carbon capturing device. This is the UK, after all...
