I don’t believe so. In Holland, there are, and they are pretty much Apartheid hospitals, only serving Muslims.

This is, perhaps, one of the dumbest things Obama has done so far.
This will make the proabort Dems in Congress squirm.
This is an attack on a voting block that is not already 100% in his pocket.
(Ashamed to admit it, but the Catholic vote is usually split about 50/50).
This gives Obama headaches he does not need.
This screws up his “health care initiative”.
This opens the eyes of many Catholics, who do not track politics very well.

I understand that completely. See my post from last week below.

The man has a dark and corrupt soul. If he’s not the Anti-Christ he is at least anti-Christ. Pray for our country, we’re being led by evil.

Actually, providers who do not accept Medicare can charge 15% more than “Medicare Assignment” and most of them do. (This is for Part B, or outpatient or non-admission charges)

I understand everyone’s sentiments here, but do not act like there is an easy answer, for the providers.

This is bankruptcy of health care service providers, or damnation of their souls.

Those are the choices, if this stands.

I hope that the Bishop in Topeka issues a public excommunication if Sebelius tries to impose this travesty.

Ping! How does this impact the Orthodox Church, if at all? What about Orthodox physicians?

“There are physicians who don’t accept Medicare/Medicaid, aren’t there? Then why can’t hospitals refuse?”

Hospitals do have the right to refuse Medicare/Medicaid. However, depending on demographics,care/caid can be the primary payor of a significant amount of your patients. The lowest care/caid rate of any hospital I worked in was 29% and that was in a wealthier, predominantly caucasian suburb of large city. The highest rate of a hospital I’ve worked in was 83% care/caid rate (I think the other 7% was uninsured:))...not a suburban area.

God help the first women (woman) who walks in the hospital for the abortion. You no (know) she will be a N.O.W. type of gal who is testing the waters.

“Ping! How does this impact the Orthodox Church, if at all? What about Orthodox physicians?”

I doubt it will have much impact at all, even if it is as ham handed as some would have us believe. The Orthodox Church in America doesn’t have the sort of hospital system the Latin Church does. As for Orthodox physicians, well, it will be a matter between them and their spiritual fathers. Maybe they will have to resign their positions, something which Justice Scalia once told a lower court judge when asked the same question. In the end, all of this shows what happens when private religious organizations, or individuals, take government money.

But lets see what exactly Obama does. The reg they want to change is brand new, enacted at the end of the Bush presidency. It could be that all they are looking to do is put matters back where they were.

Politically, of course, if what Obama does leads to the closing of Roman Catholic hospitals, a firestorm will be ignited, not because the people are against abortion, it appears that a majority are not, but because it will severely restrict access to medical care. My bet is that this fear is overblown. The Obama crowd are too good at politics to flush everything to keep the baby killer lobby happy on this particular issue.

I haven’t heard this story, but if the Obama Administration is really going to take on Catholic Hospitals as described here, they MUST be as arrogant as the most “extreme” of us believe, and then some.

Catholicism has 50 million adherents in the US — but even if only a small percentage took this type of insult, and their Bishop’s consequent calls for action seriously, the country could be paralyzed.

Not that I think the “messiah-complex” President wouldn’t LOVE to see all Catholic hospitals shut down. That would remove “market pressures” and at the same time deliver much more “market share” into the control of Government Medical facilities.

Indeed, the question DOES seem to be, will Catholics decide that conscience is worth less than Government cash, or will they stand for their convictions regardless of cost? There are multitudes of examples throughout Church history pointing to the possibility that they could do either...

“The government simply acting as a bill paying service for those enrolled in those programs. That is not accepting government funds, but payment for goods and services.”

Oh if that was only the limits of the federal involvement in our healthcare system...it would be nice. I’m sure there are other healthcare administrators that can jump and and let everyone know how more “socialized” our healthcare system really is and is becoming. Accepting of care/caid also subjects the hospital to federal inspections/certification known as JCAHO which in a nutshell establishes guidelines from everything from patient treatment to the cafeteria to the gift shop. And don’t forget HIPAA which was supposed to provide privacy for patient’s medical information, but I think more limits to law enforcement have come from this than any benefit of keeping information private. Let’s not forget EMTALA which is the “hospitals can’t refuse a patient through the ER” legislation (very simplified explanation). I would love the day to come where the federal government just acts as the payer of services for care/caid:)

Justin Cardinal Rigali, here in Philadelphia, has announced that if FOCA passes -- or if Catholic hospitals are told they must perform abortions -- that he will shut all of the Catholic hospitals in the Archdiocese down. Period.

I hope he keeps his word.

Getting away from government money is like withdrawing from heroin. Very unpleasant in the short term, but much better for your long term health.

Someone else asked, are there any Muslim hospitals in the US. Well right now, I believe not. But importantly, they refuse to compromise their standards, and this is a good lesson for Catholic hospitals as well.

You can either take money from the government, or you can do things your way. You can’t have both.

I'm right there with you. I am now that in-your-face obnoxious jackass that they have always been. Hey, some of us have to be calm, cool and collected. We also need some that just intimidate the hell out of them, which is another tactic they've used.

Try not to laugh too hard when they call you un-American (for trying to preserve America as she always has been in her best aspects) and unpatriotic (for loving the country as our Founding Fathers created her).

The world-wide Islamic baby boom is no accident. Population stats reveal trends that will in very short order change the world .. Meanwhile, we in the “enlightened” west are doomed to live in this culture of death; abortion and infanticide.
