Obama’s Friday order to Catholic hospitals: Shut up, commit abortions or I’ll shut you down
The Collins Report ^ | March 2, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Posted on 03/02/2009 5:53:22 AM PST by jmaroneps37

The underhanded Obama administration has quietly moved to rescind the “conscience clause” found in agreements between the federal government and Catholic hospitals.

This “conscience clause” has always protected practitioners from being forced to commit abortions in violation of their consciences. Its removal means Catholic hospitals will be forced to choose between federal funds for committing abortions and closing down to maintain a clear conscience.

Phonies with egg on their faces

Nevertheless, phony “Catholic” judas goats like Douglas Kmiec are still beating their chests with pride at having delivered 52% of the Catholic vote to the abortion team last fall.

In January Kmiec smugly wrote “The scurrilous remarks of conservative bloggers missed the point, which was that I and millions of others who voted for Obama did so not despite our Catholic faith but because of it.”

As a proud “conservative blogger” I have to ask this vile man how voting for a monster who could allow miracle abortion surviving infants to die unattended on a cold steel table in a broom closet is Catholic faith.

Reminding us why print media is dying, two weeks ago Time’s Amy Sullivan instructed us “confused Catholics”, that FOCA does not even exist. Insisting it will not be considered, she gently explains FOCA is merely a myth imagined by our Bishops which will not be voted on in Congress so it can’t threaten the sanctity of life.

Perhaps Sullivan could discern a comforting difference between being sent to a “work camp” rather than a “concentration camp” but her logic escapes me.

The truth may be Obama doesn’t sign anything named FOCA, but whether it’s called FOCA or the Sunshine and Applesauce law, he’ll sign a law extorting Catholic hospitals into committing abortions thereby killing Catholic hospitals.

Obama’s sneaky order proves both of these phonies wrong.

Because they are required by law to treat anyone who walks into their emergency room.

From what I know that only applies to hospitals which accept government money of any sort. If a hospital is 100% private (there are some) then they are not subject to this requirement.

This “order” was apparently issued Friday. Anybody have the source for this? It’s helpful to have the facts laid out before lambasting my Catholic Democrat Senator.

I guess I am confused. Does a President have the legal power to do this? One man can simply erase laws?

The solution for Catholic hospitals is clear: stop taking money from evil.

Importantly, some physicians have for years now learned a great secret: if you refuse Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance payments, your costs are so reduced that you can make more money while charging only half of what you did before. 50% off for patients, and more profits.

It is false to believe that accepting federal money is the only way to help the poor. Only now does it become obvious that to take the easy route means death.

And by refusing federal money, Catholic hospitals are also freed from the clutches of evil in other ways. For example, patients who use Catholic hospitals will no longer have their medical records kept by the government.

The cross can be openly displayed without offending Muslims. And if some Muslim sees a cross and is offended, he can be told to bugger off.

Nurses and Doctors can pray for the health and recovery of their patients, and priests and nuns can offer solace to the sick without having to be “non-denominational”.

Christmas and Easter can be celebrated in the hospital again.

What has been lost by taking federal money?

Quite a few threads about the conscience clause since Friday.

Word is that Obama was waiting to get his Health and Human Services secretary before going full bore at the law.

He picked her on Saturday ( The Kansas Governor who supports abortionist Tiller)

“I mean, what are the consequences?”

Lawsuits; with the force of federal law behind them. I think that’s scarier than going to jail for most of these Doctors.

Just because something is legal doesn’t mean that people have to be compelled to do it.

Hey, how you doing?

Would not medicare/caid payments be for services rendered?

Yes, but it's still federal money. They won't get paid for the services they DO provide if they refuse to provide Obama's OTHER services as well.

Years ago, when I worked in a bar in Minneapolis, the city passed a law that bars could only be open on Sunday if they served food. The owner of the bar bought a couple of TV dinners and put them in the freezer - in case we were ever inspected, those were the Sunday dinners. Possibly a hospital could stock abortion equipment from the sixteenth century and say that abortions ARE available, and here's the instruments we'll be doing them with.

Makes me wonder if Tiller has already written his bribe checks to her successor... most likely he has.

I think that Comrade Obama is trying to eliminate all private charity in the US, so people have no choice but to rely on government

You can’t cut the cord in health care. Medicare and Medicaid are federal programs.

I'm very unfamiliar with these issues, so please don't mistake this for a rhetorical question. There are physicians who don't accept Medicare/Medicaid, aren't there? Then why can't hospitals refuse?

I believe those are Divine Providence nuns. The second one from the left looks like the nun who taught me Chemistry at St. Basil’s in Pittsburgh.

Sister Rosaria, I think. “Always remember your valences,” she used to beat into our little minds...

We had our 45th reunion 3 years ago. Sister Rosaria was there. Well into her 90’s.

He can order Catholic hospitals to perform abortions while no one can force him to produce a birth certificate. Curious.
