Rosario Marin Accepted Money For Speeches, Governor's Office Says
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California's secretary for the State and Consumer Services Agency has resigned after accepting money for giving speeches, the governor's office said Thursday.
Rosario Marin heads the agency that oversees the Franchise Tax Board and the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's office does not permit cabinet members to receive income for making speeches because it presents a potential conflict of interest.
Marin gave speeches to private companies, including those doing business with the agency. She was paid for a speaking engagement with pharmaceutical companies shortly after her agency tried to take on a lesser role as a watchdog over prescription drugs, the governor's office said.
In addition, Carrie Lopez, the director of the California State Department of Consumer Affairs, has been told to not travel after she took a trip to Los Angeles to attend a Justin Timberlake concert with her daughter on taxpayer money.
Lopez violated Schwarzenegger's executive order that bans non-essential travel. The administration is now investigating her expenses.
Marin once served as the Treasurer of the United States under President George W. Bush.
DEMOCRATS???? DEMOCRATS????....Dare we ask????
In hindsight I wish they would have gotten their useless RINO nominated. Then the whiners wouldn't be able to yap about how its all the fault of the evil right-wingers for the seat going Democrat.
AKA taking payoffs to us unwashed pipples. When is this S**t going to stop. So called ‘Campaign contributions’, ‘Speaking Fees’ are an invitation to corruption. Ask Blago all about how Chi Town works.
Does it really matter? Scum on the left or scum on the right -- it's still scum.
Short, sweet, and right on target.

Nah... then they would have claimed that "conservatives stayed home" because they couldn't vote for their "perfect candidate." LOL They've been playin' this same game for about 5-10 decades now.
Third. (snicker) .. (snicker) .. (snicker) ..
Of course, this should just about rap up her position in the CA GOP as a prime candidate for office.
Lt. Gub maybe.. or, she can always be recycled back to the waste board..I think she spent some time there. ;-)
Yeah...you’re right....lots of scum out there....RINO and DEMO
FYI, Marin = Republican. Lopez = Democrat.
Marin was the airhead that launched a run for U.S. Senator a couple years ago, reportedly pushed by the White House.
The People’s Blogger (smirk)
California is being led by the biggest bunch of political morons in history. Other states too are being led by morons as well such as Michigan, Illinois and New York. But then those are liberal run states who keep on raising taxrs and spending taxpayer money like there is no tomorrow. Arnold and the State Legislature should be condemned.
1) In 2005, as a consultant to Washington DC Republican lobbying firm DCI, Marin participated in a secret grass roots effort to stop regulation of mortgage giant Freddie Mac.It's amazing what you can get away with if you are a crooked politician.2) Edward Escareno was quietly prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office and convicted in Los Angeles County Superior court on December 20, 2005 for "Grand Theft", a felony.
The conviction was evidently kept a secret by both the Huntington Park city council and by the District Attorney's office in order to protect Rosario Marin's public image, as she is closely associated with Escareno, her protégé.
And the State had her on the payroll at a salary of $175,000.
Never enough for some, I suppose.
Rosario Marin, the most prominent state or federal official who admits to having been an illegal, Mexican alien. Her excuse;”My father made me do it.” Just the sort of success story the US needs to give Mexicans second thoughts about the odyssey in the desert.
