Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
The London Telegraph ^ | March 7, 2009 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 03/07/2009 12:16:38 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

We can all laugh at this ignorant, incompetent, buffoon but the scary thing is he's in charge of our country, our security, our future and our children's future. What a mistake this guy was...oh how I long for the days of President and Mrs Bush!

RE: “I saw GWB in church two Sundays ago. He looked tanned, fit, relaxed and smiling broadly as well-wishers gathered to welcome him back. It was so good to see him like that as I wondered how these last few years had aged him”

I am very envious of your GWB “sighting!!!” If you get another opportunity, be sure to tell him thousands of FReepers out here across the land wish him well and miss him!

Hey, Obamalamadingdong. I’m a 62 year old doctor, I work 70 hours a week, and I’ve always got time for my patients. You have a country to run a$$hole and you’re only 48. Get with the program or get out of the office. You are a slacker!

What are the odds of Clinton coming out against Bama and his administration? He has already told Bama to be a little more postive. Hoping

By 2010, when Obama is clearly seen as a disaster by most Americans, I would say the chances are 100%.

Hillary would be offered as an Obama alternative and, with all sincerity, I would switch parties so that I could vote for her in the primaries and put end to the possibility of a second Obama term. Obama is an unmitigated disaster for America.

The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: ‘There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.’”

Oh Wonderfull. They are only our ally of longest standing, and part of a group of "English Speaking" countries (UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) with whom we've had quite close military ties with for generations.

I guess next time we are attacked, we'll turn to Cote d'Ivoire, Brunei and Myanmar for help?

Say what you want about Bush, but he was able to keep up with the work load and behave in a civil manner.

Those visits to the gym are doing nothing to improve his stamina.

I imagine the effect is more than offset by his continuing use of cancer sticks, wacky weed and other recreation substances.

Why is he so tired? We wouldn’t know because no one has seen his medical records. He needs to go to bed early like Bush. Bush was mature enough to realize that the job required being rested and alert every single day. The Obama’s are too busy building their image as a young, hip couple in the WH to take the real job seriously.

Exactly!

If this putz is “too tired” to do something relatively stress free like welcoming the leader of our best and staunchest ally, then how the hell does he plan on dealing with our enemies? Does he think that being too tired to deal with Kim Jong Il, Ahmahdinejad, the UN, etc., will even come close to being acceptable?

But he does give such nice speeches that make the drones feel all warm and fuzzy.
