Presidential Double-talk... Newsweek finally realizes that Obama is a typical politician
Newsweek ^ | 03/07/09 | Robert J. Samuelson

Posted on 03/08/2009 10:04:15 AM PDT by Painesright

Barack Obama is a great pretender. He constantly says he's doing things that he isn't, and he relies on his powerful rhetoric to obscure the difference. He has made "responsibility" a personal theme, and the budget's cover line is "A New Era of Responsibility." He claims that the budget begins "making the tough choices necessary to restore fiscal discipline." It doesn't.

If Obama were "responsible," he would be leading a candid conversation about government's size and role. Who deserves support and why? How big can government grow before higher taxes and deficits harm long-term economic growth? Although Obama claims to be doing this, he hasn't confronted entitlement psychology—the belief that government benefits once conferred should never be revoked—and asked whether some significant spending no longer serves any "public interest."

It is Obama's conceit—perhaps his cockiness—that he can ignore these blatant inconsistencies. Like many smart people, he believes he can talk his way around any problem.

His base doesn’t read Newsweek, so it won’t have an effect

His base reads 'People Magazine.'

Like many smart people, he believes he can talk his way around any problem.

As long as it's there on the teleprompter screen...

Newsweek may actually be trying to survive by being honest, unlike the NY Times.

This is the worst case of media bias yet!

“Like many smart people, he believes he can talk his way around any problem”

BS. Obama believes he can read off a teleprompter to get around any problem (Only half /s).

The National Enquirer did a service to the nation when it exposed John Edwards’ affair.

Don’t get our hopes up. Newsweek occasionally runs a token non-liberal article. The majority of stuff they print will continue to have a liberal leaning.

Samuelson is probably the only sane voice at Newspeak. The rest of the leftists there haven’t lost their support for The Grand Distributor. They’re cheering most of what he’s doing.

Ya but now even Newt Gingrich is saying those of us who want Obama to fail are "irrational". If the GOP had some balls Obama would be at 40% by now.

The honeymoon between Obama and the liberal media will never be over. The liberal media supports Obama more than he supports himself, it is that simple. Please do not confuse on opinion writer criticizing Obama in a liberal publication as being the opinion of the liberal media, far, far, far from it.

The media has so much interest in Obama and liberals being in power to the point that they are ready to bankrupt and sacrifice their own companies to support the socialist and liberal cause. For them the implementation of the socialist liberal agenda and is their only reason to exist.

“It is Obama’s conceit—perhaps his cockiness—that he can ignore these blatant inconsistencies. Like many smart people, he believes he can talk his way around any problem.”

Of course, intelligence is not a measure of one’s ability to lead, make the right moral decisions and speak without a teleprompter.

“he would be leading a candid conversation”

WRONG! Without a teleprompter, I strongly suggest that he has trouble holding a candid conversation with even his daughters.
