Correct. The President favors human cloning only when it is assured that the resultant human life will be destroyed.

He’s afraid we’re going to try to clone a Ronald Reagan or Winston Churchill.

You don’t have to kill humans to clone humans.

I think you’ve discovered why he thinks cloning is wrong and killing an accidentally born alive baby is not...

well, because the cloning is creating human life, not destroying it. If it were guaranteed to be destroyed, I’m sure he’d be for it.

Calling Obama insane is an insult to those, who sadly, are insane.

Insanity is a mental disease. Obama's problems are all by choice, which makes them a moral failing.

Ah, let me get this straight: Banning research on embryonic stem cells "puts ideology and politics over scientific progress," but human cloning must be banned because it is "profoundly wrong."

I must have missed something here. Can someone please explain why Obama's judgments about right and wrong are profound moral insights that we must all live by, but YOUR judgments and MY judgments about right and wrong are "ideology and politics"?

And besides, as others have pointed out, it's a verbal shell game.

His definition of "reproductive cloning" means starting tiny cloned human beings ---and then nurturing them until they're toddling about and saying "Mama."

He says this kind of cloning is "morally wrong". (True: reproductive cloning is wrong.)

But his definition of "research" or "therapeutic" cloning means starting tiny cloned human beings --- and then experimenting on them or extracting materials from them until they are dead.

He says THIS kind of cloning is "morally right".

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

No, it's not that Obama has a "direct line to God." It's that he thinks God died and left ~O~ in charge.

Obama: Cloning is "dangerous, profoundly wrong" - there can only be ONE of ME.

However, science should do everything possible in order to ensure that I live and reign forever.

President Barack Obama says human cloning is "dangerous, profoundly wrong" and has no place in society.

Why? If clones can be created without risks to their health, why shouldn't cloning be a viable option for those who for whatever reason can not reproduce using the normal methods? Give those genes another lifetime to pass themselves on.

RE: You don't have to kill humans to clone humans.

Yes, you do. First, you kill and injure women who donate their eggs as the raw material from which cloning starts. Every egg donor suffers, at minimum, some organ damage from scarring and increased cancer risk, but some die outright of ovarian hyperstimulation. Then, you kill jillions of cloned embryos trying to make a viable clone. Then you finally, presumably, if God doesn't stop you, get an actual clone that would otherwise survive to at least produce stem cells (4 days), and you kill it for the stem cells, OR on the really deep, dark side of humanity, you grow it up in a surrogate until it starts forming organs and then you “harvest” the organs. There is already some speculative work on how far along the embryonic development needs to be to have a useful organ for transplant.

I don’t know why it’s “profoundly wrong” either. It may not be the most natural way to start a human life, but neither is IVF. People get weird with cloning.

Too many sci-fi movies, maybe. Like the clone is a monster. Or the clone will emerge fully grown, with a lifetime of memories and personality and ready to take the place of the original.

They seem to forget that we have all dealt with clones, and there’s nothing monstrous about them. We call them identical twins. And they are more alike in terms of age and circumstances of upbringing than any clone of an adult ever could be.

So I don’t get it.

Well his reasoning is sound because someone who create a clone of one of the millions innocent babies he supports the murder of....of course he wants those abortions to stay dead otherwise it might be to traumatic for the woman involved...

geesh...this guy is contradiction after contradiction.

When Dolly the sheep was cloned, did it kill her?

The clone was born “old”, though, cellularly.

The telomeres were as broken off in the lamb the same as they were in Dolly.

Yup. Any gardener who has watched her cuttings take root has created clones. I don’t see what business or right the federal government has telling responsible adults that they can’t use this method to reproduce, if human cloning becomes perfected.

Our celebutard president seems to think he can lie and no one notices.

Maybe his followers are too stupid to know the difference, but not us.

How many is "some"? What percentage of women has this happened to? I suspect it's vanishingly low, and decreasing as the techniques advance.

Or the surrogate mother (who could very well be the source of the clone or married to him) delivers the baby and the cloned child is raised like any other child. Why do you assume that the only reason to clone a child would be to destroy it for stem cells or harvest it for organs?
