The U.S. and Britain—What “Special Relationship”? (Another WH "Amateur Hour")

Was it a snub or not?

Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s recent visit to America’s new president turned out to be far less than he’d obviously hoped for. At the conclusion of his visit, observing that American press coverage had been particularly poor, the Mail Online stated that “abc News gave Mr. Brown less prominence today than it did a story about a sleepwalking dog that walked into a wall” (March 5).

A series of events (or lack of them) underpinned the degree to which the Obama administration has changed the official government view of the “special relationship” that has been taken for granted by both Britain and America for well over a century.

Reality was already beginning to dawn when Prime Minister Brown’s entourage landed at Andrews Air Force Base last Monday night for the prime minister’s two-day visit to Washington, the first by any national leader since President Obama’s inauguration. Dana Milbank of the Washington Post noted that “Obama, breaking with precedent, wouldn’t grant the prime minister the customary honor of standing beside him in front of the two nations’ flags for the tv cameras …. For the president—beloved by the world largely for the fact that he is not Bush—it was a surprisingly cool reception for an ally” (March 4).

Then the British Foreign Office noted the cancellation, due to a heavy snowfall, of a planned press conference due to take place on Tuesday with President Obama and Prime Minister Brown on the White House lawn. In its stead, the prime minister was offered a far briefer, more low-key affair in the west wing of the White House with limited exposure on camera and only a handful of questions permitted.

and to add insult to injury, Obama returned the bust of Winston Churchill that was a gift from Great Britain given to GWB after 9/11...Obama has zero "class!"

The guy’s surrounded by advisors and apparatchiks who know quite well what they’re doing. They’re telegraphing a distinct change of direction, as far as alliances. These are not “mistakes” that they’re making, mistaken though they will prove to be.

Watch for future visits by heads of state, and their respective receptions. See who is received properly and warmly. That will tell you a lot.

Obama’s obvious fascination with the Queen of England should make for good theater, when the two meet. Not sure what all that’s about, but we’ll see, I guess.

Hate to say it, but of the McKennedy/Obama/Biden/Palen group, only Sarah had a modicum of actual work experience.

I think it is racism on Obama’s part. Our foreign policy will be tilted toward third world countries and away from traditional Western allies.

the big question in my mind is if it is just personal for obama with GB (hard to see why, does he give a fig about kenya’s history?) or if he treats all anglo-american countries this way, or worse, all western europeans.

It really is quite stunning. He doesn’t even pretend and follow basic niceties even enemies show each other on visits. Amazing arrogance.

Gotta remember his Kenyan daddykins was British subject; and as a result, he may also have had the option of dual British citizenship at one time.

Heavy snowfall... for an event that could have been held indoors and just two weeks ago he was complaining because his kids school was cancelled for a ‘little bit of ice’ and people were dying from that ‘little bit of ice’.

This man makes my head hurt.

His British citizenship had to be renewed by 1982-1984, don’t remember exact date required.

Maybe the Queen can give Obama some of those boring English movies as a gift..lol

He WAS a dual citizen up until age 21. He was a British citizen until 2 or 3 when Kenya was seperated from England and then he was a Kenyan citizen until 21.

This was admitted on his website.

He’s pure ghetto.

Although he grew up in fairly tony neighborhoods -- hanging around for 20 years in Wright's House of Hate IS going to have some effects...
This was a very big deal regarding Mr. Obama's candidacy - and it was sadly ignored by a complicit media and a docile Mr. McCain...

But be that as it may, Mr. Obama is now President Obama -- and as always it remains true that God gives us the leaders we deserve and uses them for HIS purposes.
Repent, and Pray for mercy.

Not optional. He was a subject at birth.

Obama probably would have preferred meeting with the Muslims of the UK more than Gordon Brown.

And supposedly his grandfather was tortured by the British during their occupation of Kenya.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Poor little machete-wielding Mau Mau. It’s not as if torture was an alien concept to them.

They are traitors.

Anyone that still supports Obama is as anti-American as they are.

Soon it will be time for people to decide which side they are on.

America or the Manchurian Candidate.

America needs to be prepared to save and take back our country at any cost.

Think about it...this is where we are after 40 days...can you imagine where we will be in 4 years?
