Much Ado About Obama and Embryonic Stem Cells
Pajamas Media ^ | March 10 | Melissa Clouthier

In a move that shocked no one, President Barack Obama reversed President George W. Bush’s executive order to ban government-funded human embryonic stem cell (ESC) research on new embryonic stem cell strains. This decision has caused many to rejoice and many to lament.

Some question the timing: lifting the stem cell research funding ban is a political win for Obama at a time when he’s losing public opinion ground on the economy. It also puts Republicans on defense — moderates and Democrats favor embryonic stem cell research, while conservatives dislike it. Moderate Republicans welcome the policy shift because they view the issue as a political loser and want it off the table.

A couple things to clarify: First, existing lines of human embryonic stem cell research continued throughout the Bush administration...

“Much ado about nothing”?

Uh ya, the research went on during the Bush Administration. But the diff is now we get to pay for stuff we find morally reprehensible. Much ado about nothing? Wow really well thought out there. Gold star.

Hussein also said he will overturn President Bush’s ban on partial birth abortion by signing the “Freedom of Choice Act”

Hussein also wants to pay for abortions with tax payer money.

May he rot in hell.

Democrats favor research that not only doesn’t work, but causes Cancer. BRILLIANT!

The “much ado about nothing” reference is directed at the MSM and Obama. They have cast this as some sort of major policy change. It is not. It is just expanding federal support for the Bush program. Bush was the first president to use federal funds to support embryonic stem cell research. And the private sector has always been free to do so and has been doing so. This is more hyperbole.

Ya the private sector is also free to make bukakke porn movies. So what if the federal government started funding bukakke porn movies? Would that be "much ado about nothing" since the private sector had always been free to do it?

The federal government has been funding embryonic stem cell research since 2004. Fact Sheet

Ok so I just want to get you on record: If the federal government was funding bukakke porn movies since 2004, and then further expanded funding for bukakke porn movies in 2009-- that would be "much ado about nothing"?

At the risk of being flamed, this is one area where I have on problem with Obama.

1. The little zygotes were destined to be destroyed anyway;
2. Life, IMHO, begins at implantation rather than "conception," (if it began at conception then most birth control pills should be verboten too as most prevent implantation rather than conception);
3. I believe all avenues of science should be explored as God gave us brains and scientific curiosity as well as the ability to reproduce.
4. If indeed embryonic stem cells prove beneficial then this furor will be overcome by the beneficial events.

What Obama’s change will allow is research into various genetic diseases. Embryos will be cloned (many times) to study — well all sorts of things. Before too long, researchers will want these embryos to grow bigger and bigger; before “terminating” them. Somewhere, down that slippery slope, lies the cloning of fully-developed humans. By then, we won’t be able to determine whether or not that’s unethical. It seems that the technological imperative trumps all other considerations.

Obama’s = Obama’s
““terminating”” = “terminating”

(Unexplainable weird artifacts introduced during posting.)

Rot in hell? Hardly. With the stuff he’s trying to do? Rule in hell is more like it.

He’s doing his father’s work.

John 8:44
You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

You keep moving the goal posts. I suggest you reread my posts to you. This is still “Much ado about nothing,”i.e, it is not an earthshaking policy change nor will it change matters very much. The very fact that you didn’t know that the federal government was funding embryonic stem cell research since 2004 is proof positive about the ignorance surrounding the subject. Your sopohmoric comments are not worth my time addressing. This discussion is over.

I'm not moving the goal posts. I'm illustrating the fact that even if I cede all your claims, you still can't say that it's "much ado about nothing" unless you agree that expanded federal funding of bukakke porn movies is "much ado about nothing".
