IIRC it’s the DUTCH, not the Danes, who wear the wooden shoes;)

They both do. My full Danish mother grew up wearing clogs and wore them well into adulthood.

Wooden shoes were worn by farmers all over Europe until well into the 19th century.

We get the word 'sabotage' from French peasants throwing their wooden shoes (sabots) into weaving machines to protest the competition in what had been a cottage industry and source of income for them.

Detroit needs to get rid of the high powered mayor and appoint a heartless CEO and a CFO.

Kenyatta said he has a vision of Detroit where nobody fears living there.

Maybe he should start with a vision of Detroit where nobody fears investing there.

It bespeaks a willful ignorance of history. ...or not. People should have learned by now that guys with names of tyrants and agitators from third world countries MIGHT MEAN THEY AGREE AND IDENTIFY WITH THEM.

Okay okay, I know I just posted twice in a row, but I HAD to ask, what is the deal with the crown? Please tell me she is representing some pageant receiving an award from the council for doing good deeds in the community. Please. Or maybe she got called away from a formal evening ball?

What is the date of that photo? Was it Halloween?

And no, the term is “stylin’ Bi’ach,” or you may use “stylin’ ho.” What is wrong wit you?

I hope this thread hasn’t gotten too far down for a response on this one. I mean like fo’ real and all dat.

I haven't heard much from this Kwame, which isn't a bad thing. Bing's my first choice, but there's a lot worse than Kenyatta.

Sometimes those in Detroit with the "black" names are better than some with the more "English" names. Monica or John Conyers, anybody? Sharon McPhail? Carolyn or Bernard Kilpatrick? Let's not forget Coleman Alexander Young.

I'd vote for a Kwame, Antwan, or DeShawn over those people I just listed.

It was NOT Halloween, MLK Jr Day, Black Pride Day, Nappy Headed Ho Day or Black Barbie Doll Day......

I guess the gal considered this "stylin".....

The photo was snagged from an article written in Jul/2008... It's for REAL..... Really! It's NOT Photo-Shop work.

Here's another one from a different angle...

"I want to bring a different type of perspective, a different type of spirit, a different type of connection that we haven't seen since the days of Coleman A. Young," he said.
Yeah, that'll help. What happened to the "Burn Down Detroit" plan? Did you actually give that a try? Geez.

When I first saw the headline, I thought it was a story about Nairobi, not Detroit. This guy is Jomo Kenyatta’s grandson, right?

Good question, I don’t know that one. I just figured he or his parents did one of those “made up name” things.
