A new document meant to help Missouri law enforcement agencies identify militia members or domestic terrorists has drawn criticism for some of the warning signs mentioned.
The Feb. 20 report called "The Modern Militia Movement" mentions such red flags as political bumper stickers for third-party candidates, such as U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, who ran for president last year; talk of conspiracy theories, such as the plan for a superhighway linking Canada to Mexico; and possession of subversive literature.
"It seems like they want to stifle political thought," said Roger Webb, president of the University of Missouri campus Libertarians. "There are a lot of third parties out there, and none of them express any violence. In fact, if you join the Libertarian Party, one of the things you sign in your membership application is that you don't support violence as a means to any ends."
But state law enforcement officials said the report is being misinterpreted.
Lt. John Hotz of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the report comes from publicly available, trend data on militias. It was compiled by the Missouri Information Analysis Center, a "fusion center" in Jefferson City that combines resources from the federal Department of Homeland Security and other agencies. The center, which opened in 2005, was set up to collect local intelligence to better combat terrorism and other criminal activity, he said.
"All this is an educational thing," Hotz said of the report. "Troopers have been shot by members of groups, so it's our job to let law enforcement officers know what the trends are in the modern militia movement."

I have a new campaign rally against the ABCs which attack those (who are non-violent) in the Patriot Movement: DEFUND THE FBI, DHS, NSA, SS, CIA and FEMA!
Just the first small step to suppressing free speech and political descent. It’s a sad day that this is in my state.
Lights out in thirty minutes. Back to your cells.
This is why. My guard goes up anytime I hear government proclaim someone as a "terrorist." We could be the targets.
Yep, collecting names of “dissenters” is the first step of rounding them up.
I thought terrorists were just all misunderstood. I thought Islam is a religion of peace, so why isn’t Christianity? I thought Allah and Jehovah are the same God? So why does Islam get a pass for killing Americans and Americans are criminalized for wanting freedom? How useful to us is a government who doesn’t represent us? Do they just want to stir up more anger and dissent? And where in the hell are the Patrick Henrys of the world when you need them?
Hell, defund the entire federal goverment and every state stop paying taxes to them and protect their citizens from the fallout. In short, every state goverment kick the feds out and don’t let them back in until they abide by the law of the land, the Constitution and let the commies have the feds and all the COSTS that go with them. Let freedom ring, America.
Thought you two might want to see this one. Joe, I’m disappointed in our state.
Police are NOT YOUR FRIENDS. The term “jack booted thugs” has meaning. THe people providing this guide are enemies. They are lying and spinning just as much as an MS-NBC host.
Ron Paul was NOT a third party candidate, not that it should make ANY DIFFERENCE. He ran for the GOP. Yes, he seemed weird at the time, ranting about the economy and the Fed. He seems distinctly less weird now. As the rap song says “F*** the Police.
Oh heck. I guess I’m gonna get stopped when I drive through Missouri. I have bumper stickers on my car . . . at least two dozen.
Things like “Don’t Tax Me Bro’” and “I carry a pistol because a rifle won’t fit in my purse” and a little one that says “infidel” and some fake gunshot holes and other stuff.
There is no Constitutional party, because there is no Constitution in America any more. It’s all run from the top down, not the bottom up, the way it was intended to be run.
Who does these studies? Radical Islamists kill thousands of citizens on 9/11 and now the liberals in Washington want to make nice to them.
Meanwhile, American citizens who follow the law, pay taxes, raise kids in 2 parent families, believe in God, want small government and free enterprise, plus enjoy the shooting sports are called the the “modern militia movement” and are said to be potential cop killers. This is nuts. Conservatives and those who want the Republic as formed by the Constitution are the cure for America and not the enemy.
So, if a conservative illegal immigrant with a copy of Hayek’s Constitution of Liberty in his back seat were stopped for his Ron Paul bumper sticker, could he sue for “profiling”?
Your Osama bumper sticker is fine.
Your Ron Paul bumper sticker is a “red flag”.
They sure want to kill free speech. OMG. A Ron Paul bumper sticker makes you a terrorists? Because he has a brain? Pretty sad stuff.
This sort of funny coming from Missouri. Seems to me that the Governor of that particular state has the power to conscript from the “unorganized militia of Missouri”, and even use it to replace the National Guard if it is mobilized outside of the state.
As I recall, the militia in Missouri has a long history of citizen support for the state. Sounds like they may be just another casualty caused by the epidemic of PC mentality.
To protect myself, especialy in this economy with local and state municipalities in debt, I have a tape recorder in my truck at all times. I always refuse consent searches. I also know this sentence very well if I am ever detained or arrested. "I wish to speak with my attorney."
List the groups then. I can think of at least one. And it was started by presidential friend, Bill Ayers.
I looked at the document, the format was not that friendly, and you had to register with service to download the .pdf. I declined to do that.
It appears it was written by an individual or group of “goobers”. A lot of what it said was accurate, but much of it was really dumb. Really dumb.
It was written in “Bureaucrat Language of the left”. Stated that the loss of family farms was the reason for the previous build-up in the Militia movement. It was not. It had to do with the “Slick Willie” administration, and his actions. The movement died down after the OKC bombing.
When Clinton was no longer in office there was no reason for them to exist. Until recently.
I do not know a single person who is a member, but I know they exist and are growing. Obozo’s crowd is the reason. Pure Commies are all over the administration, and I believe that Obozo is one, Born & Bred.
Reading that document was somewhat chilling.
Much of the stuff they associate with “anti-government” activity I hear people speak, and read on the internet every day, and none of it is by “anti-government” people. Hell, whoever wrote that document would label FR as some militia group, or anti-government conspirators.
This is the 90s all over again. The anti-government “militia” bogyman is back!
Yes, and Bill Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist.
But no one cares, because he is a leftie.
Here are images of the document, posted on another forum:

Yep, here it is right here. Looks like the militia members of Missouri include just about every able bodied citizen between 17 and 64 years of age. So, is Missouri going to change their state statutes now? Can’t have those nasty militia members hanging about!
Missouri Revised Statutes,
41.050. The militia of the state shall include all able-bodied citizens and all other able-bodied residents, who, in the case of the unorganized militia and the Missouri reserve military force, shall be more than seventeen years of age and not more than sixty-four, and such other persons as may upon their own application be enrolled or commissioned therein, and who, in the case of the organized militia, shall be within the age limits and possess the physical and mental qualifications prescribed by law or regulations for the reserve components of the armed forces of the United States, except that this section shall not be construed to require militia service of any persons specifically exempted by the laws of the United States or the state of Missouri.
I didn't have to "register".
I meant that to download the .pdf version of the document I would have to register. I could view it without doing so.

Texas Fossil
Isn’t this profiling? Now we can’t be doing this can we? If this was a lesson in profiling a minority group who wear berets and raised right hand fists there would be MSM all over it as a racists profiling.
Ever since the Dems got control of Missouri, it has been heading to fascism.
Remind me to stay out of the “Show Me State”.
I’d like to show you that I was a pro-American journalist in Vietnam but you might think I’m an anti-communist terrorist.
I’d like to tell you that my son fought in Iraq but you might think he’s a right-wing fanatic (Forget about the Presidential Unit citation for operations under enemy fire, and forget that he is a cop).
You might shoot me for having a McCain-Palin sticker, or for talking to his father, then CINCOMPAC during the Vietnam war.
You might shoot me for risking my life as an undercover operative in leftwing extremist and treasonous groups, as well as exposing the KKK/American Nazis, and old Nazis SS murderers.
You might consider me an extremist for saying “Never Again” after having lost all my European family to the firing squads and gas ovens of Belzec and Auschwitz.
What the f*ck is going on in Missouri?
Screw the Carnahans and their leftwing idiocy. Bring back John Ashcroft. He’s a loyal American I could trust.
Also bearing in mind the Democratic DA’s in STL City and County who threatened to prosecute any so-called “false” political advertising against the Annoited One.
It’s 1984 in the Show-Me State.
Matt Blunt told obama to grow up.
I remember that well. Dems have a thing about lying and when called on it, threaten and intimidate. Right out of their playbook.
“Also bearing in mind the Democratic DAs in STL City and County who threatened to prosecute any so-called false political advertising against the Annoited One.”
I’m surprised that someone in Kansas City did not play that hand.
I understand she heard from many Missourians over that one.
I;m still sick over the 2006 election and losing Jim Talent.
Someone probably would have if the Governor hadn’t stepped in.
Ironically, I spent 1984 in KC. Deja vu? (and I don’t mean the club in Columbia!)
I know she heard from me multiple times. I told her that I wouldn’t stop until she was defeated in the next election. Funny how she hasn’t replied to me yet...lol
In 1984 I was working my young buns off to Ronaldus Magnus re-elected. Of course I was only 15 at the time but I knew what this country needed.
Ron Paul Ping!
I guess she and Bond made an agreement on the Omnibus bill. He voted for it and she voted against. Bond gave her cover so they got their 86 million for Missouri via earmark.
A pox on Bond. I'm glad he's retiring.
I’m glad myself of that too. That’s why I’m backing Steelman. She is Conservative and does not hold earmarks as a virtue, like the Missouri GOP seems to be doing right now.
Bond thinks some earmarks are more equal than others.
