Bristol Palin's ex-fiance: I'm not mature enough

(03-15) 17:22 PDT Anchorage, Alaska (AP) --

The former fiance of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter said in an interview that they could reunite but would remain apart as friends for now.

Levi Johnston, 19, told ABC's "Good Morning America" in a segment to air Monday that he and 18-year-old Bristol Palin broke up after a fight "a week, two weeks ago" and had tried to "make things work." The two are the parents of an infant son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, born on Dec. 27.

"But this is what it kind of ended up turning into," Johnson said in an interview from his Alaska home. "But we'll see what happens."

Johnston also said they needed time to grow up before following through on marriage plans.

I understand it goes on (I taught HS in a small town, and in fact taught Health—so these topics came up). I always had at least one incoming freshman with a child and sometimes one with a child who was now pregnant with baby #2. I know this is going on. But it doesn’t have to. When I was growing up it was the rare girl who was having sex in the early teen years, and the rare girl who got pregnant. Clearly something has happened in our culture. And it has been a disaster for everyone involved. We need to focus on the kids who do the right thing. Sex is one of those things, it will always be an are fraught with trouble. But it doesn’t help when the culture says go for it, damned the cosequences! :)
And man, I’m sure your job is depressing! My last teaching assignment was 4th grade at a Christian school. At least none of my charges ever had babies!

actually we are animals capable of amazing things, abstract thought, etc., with our brain. Even a cursory look at our biology indicates we are, at our base, animals at some level, and still exhibit an amazing number of behaviors and reactions relating to such.

I would say it is more fair to suggest social conventions which controlled consequences of impregnation out of wedlock have simply vanished to a great degree in the US.

“We are not animals. We can make decisions.|”

OK, as a biology teacher, I know exactly what you mean (yeah, we're animals) however, we are able to overcome our instincts and make choices *other* animals cannot.

This I agree with--but I think we can do better.

The number of people 25 and under on birth control is a little bit ridiculous. In fact, as part of that demographic, I’m pretty sure I’m the *only* female I know that’s not. Don’t get me wrong, birth control is a godsend for people who have actual female-type problems, but a lot of it’s not really necessary. I think it’s just something parents do by the time they send their children off to college because it has the nice effect of rendering you temporarily sterile despite your poor decisions. And let’s face it, who wants to pay tens of thousands of dollars a year just to have their kid drop out because they got pregnant after had one too many and did something stupid?

I think the media needs to go away. Leave them alone.

Well obviously he’s not mature enough—he wouldn’t be giving interviews to GMA if he were

"Giving?" Does look like somthing he granted and arranged beforehand.

There is no way a victim can win an ambush interview like this

” My gut tells me he probably had girls all over the country throwing themselves at him”

I think that’s exactly what’s going on. He’s felt like he was trapped into marrying her.

Well I apologize to Levi. I thought he was giving a sit down interview with them. I didn’t realize they had stalked him to get the quote. What a bunch of disgusting pigs! I wish he would have said, “This is a private matter that involves an innocent child so I won’t be making any public comments.” I know, I know, it’s easy to say that when you’ve got time to think about it and aren’t caught off guard. Horrible, horrible people.

I just saw the clip of this on Breitbart. I was amazed to see GMA actually track this young man down in order to dig dirt on the Palins. I have to say he was really a gentleman during the questions from the dickhead reporter. I hope he can resolve whatever issue he is having with Ms. Palin so their son doesn’t suffer for it.

This story really begs the question:

HOW IS THIS NEWS?

(not to the poster but the MSM)

Al Gore’s son gets thrown in the slammer and that isn’t news.

If you’ve taught high school, you’re definitely aware of what’s happening out there with the kids.

These young people are getting caught up in their emotions - and their hormones, of course. And then, with modern medicine being what it is, not to mention their parents giving the okay, they can escape a lot of the consequences that other generations had to deal with if they crossed those boundaries.

Problem is, the emotional consequences go unseen and have to be dealt with sooner or later.

And yes, my job absolutely could get the best of me, and it has at times, especially when a patient is being seen for obvious child or elder abuse/neglect. I think that’s the worst! The docs are outraged, of course, and detail everything in their report, and they contact authorities, but I’m sitting here so badly wanting to wring necks!

I absolutely agree with this, and it's the thing that is rarely talked about.

“This will just endear normal people to the Palin’s all the more. “

I don’t count it as plus on the checklist for being the leader of the free world.
Her kid did something really stupid. It’s great that she didn’t kill the baby, but being an unwed parent is nothing to be admired.

Honestly I really don’t want to read about this stuff. It’s too Jerry Springer like.
People need to leave the Palins alone; and the Palins need to keep their kids out of the news.

I believe the Palin's are more than happy to keep their kids out of the news. This has been foisted on them and they are dealing with it the best they can...and I believe doing a good job given the circumstances.

Be that as it may, the opposition has chosen to make a deal out of this and my point is that most Americans, when they see how the Plains are dealing with it will respect them for it.

The baby I was talking about was the Palin's own child with downs syndrome that they chose to keep...not their daughter's baby...although I applluad the daughter and the family's influence for keeping that child as well. Life trumps abortion.

The fact is...it's real life. I did not and do not want to read about it either...but since the opposition is making it the playing field my point is that the Palins are not only handling it fine...but their life style and choices that are being revealed by the opposition make most folks respect them all the more, partticularly given the hard set of circumstances.

Having an unwed mother is no cake walk for the parents or particularly for the young mother and her child. But it was happens...even to the best of families. And if it is going to happen, then that girl can thank God for the type of parents she has...and ultimately, so will the grand-child.

My guess is, she will lern from it and ultimately find some normalcy because of it.

Yeah, well the job requirements for that have been set really low lately

Look good, dress well, give a speech without a teleprompter actually makes you over-qualified.

Hi CITB. Your name made me smile. I have 3 cats and they love boxes of course. The fattest one crams herself into tiny shoe boxes till she’s busting out the sides. It seems to make her feel secure. She’ll eventually fall asleep in the little box and it’s really cute :). Right now, though, she’s standing on my desk between me and the monitor. This is cute too, but I keep putting her on the floor anyway...and she keeps jumping back up in my face. She doesn’t fear me at all :)

Anyway, I’m sure you know this, but it used to be by the time someone was 25 they were married, had kids, and were thought of as old, but I know what you mean. And believe it or not, in spite of how it appears, there are actually more out there like you than you realize, which is a great thing, IMO :) - my DIL of 2 years being one!

I just don’t know about BCPs for helping with female problems - there are too many risks, one being that they can lead to female problems, and I wouldn’t do it unless there was no other way. But as far as using them for birth control, most women are willing to ignore the risks.
