The Missouri Libertarian Party, the third-largest political party in the state, issued the following statement regarding a Strategic Report issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) on February 22nd, which became known to the public late last week:
An internal document designed for law enforcement education purposes inaccurately and dangerously implies that among the indicators of possible involvement in extremist, militant militia activity is support for the Libertarian Party. This memo and its findings are potentially dangerous to both the people of Missouri and to our system of free political speech.
The memo claims that membership in, among other groups, the Libertarian Party and/or the display of what it calls political paraphernalia in support of the party or its 2008 presidential nominee (former US Congressman Bob Barr) could be an indicator that someone is involved in a militant militia.
Not only is this assertion baseless, it is outrageous and very dangerous, stated Missouri LP spokesman Mike Ferguson, who was also the national field director for the Barr presidential campaign in 2008. it is also misleading. Libertarians oppose the violence, racism and extremism of the militant militia that MIAC expresses concern about. Anyone who understands basic libertarian thought knows we adamantly oppose any violence for political purposes.
The memo purports to outline trends in extremist militia activity and claims those involved in such activity
commonly associate with 3rd party political groups. It went on to claim that militia members are usually supporters of Bob Barr, another third party candidate and Republican Ron Paul. While the report claims to be a memo about trends in militia activity, no specific evidence is offered to support the claim.

I wrote the author of this “memo” a letter asking him for clarification on how the local LE types were going to distinguish between a bad militia member, and the entire Missouri population between and 16-64 years of age. It turns that their state statutes declare basically all residents of the state in this age bracket to be members of the militia.
Kind of like the pot calling the pot black. Mr. Middleton hasn’t written back yet. I guess he must be busy.
Missouri Revised Statutes
41.050. The militia of the state shall include all able-bodied citizens and all other able-bodied residents, who, in the case of the unorganized militia and the Missouri reserve military force, shall be more than seventeen years of age and not more than sixty-four
There have been a handful of cases and even a few convictions. But that’s all.
Don’t be counting on anybody enforcing Title 18 Section 13 now or in the future. Ask the Duke Lacrosse boys.
The Missouri LP needs to file a lawsuit, ASAP.
It definitely won't happen if no one agitates for it. The left understands this, and will agitate for years, decades, even centuries if necessary. They eventually get what they want all too often, in spite of being told in the early days that it will never happen, and they should just give up.
Absolutely! I read the document. It paints anyone that believes in liberty, smaller government, the 2nd amendment, and the rest of the constitution as some extremist kind of anti-government threat. The entire thing was the 90s all over again, using the same rhetoric we heard while Clinton was in office.
I find it telling how they consider any politically active or opinionated freedom loving 'white guy' as a potential terrorist threat or threat of some kind, while making no significant mention of radical Islam or others that are actively organized to KILL us.
I believe they will not put the Republican party on that list(remember this is just one state for now)because they know they have infiltrated the Republican leadership heavily. The whole idea of putting those third parties on a watch list is to prevent conservatives(or attempt to prevent it)from leaving the demlite party.
Where is the GOP on this?

Dont be counting on anybody enforcing Title 18 Section 13 on behalf of anybody not in a protected class now or in the future. Ask the white, middle-class, heterosexual, Christian Duke Lacrosse boys.
The DoD directive that tried to choke off access to military caliber ammunition, by banning sales of spent intact brass, came awfully close to pulling the trigger on Civil War, part 2. It was rescinded, last night, but, what's next?
I don't plan on giving up, but I don't think some other options are a lot of fun, either...
We all know that. When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.
Fixing what's wrong will not be easy, and will not happen soon. But it won't ever happen unless those of us who don't like the way things are do something about it. The Left set a process in motion in the latter part of the 19th centuray that slowly, over many decades, got them quite far towards their goals. A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. Start walking.
Part of me wishes that every conservative would put a sticker right on their car that says “F*ck Islam” - normally I don’t like to display profanity right on my car, but the purpose of profanity is to explicitly make a point - and I think it’s appropriate here.
I’d rather explain to my son what the f-word means in that context instead of a rap concert or PETA protest context.
I say when life hands you a lemon, squeeze the juice into your enemy's eyes.
