Venezuela military 'seizes ports'
BBC ^

Posted on 03/21/2009 3:46:08 PM PDT by frankiep

Venezuela's military has taken control of key airports and sea ports under the terms of a move rubber-stamped by parliament a week ago, reports say. The move centralises the running of the country's main transport hubs. President Hugo Chavez has pushed for the move, describing it as "reunifying the motherland, which was in pieces". Critics of Mr Chavez says the plans are unconstitutional, but the National Assembly backed them a week ago, saying they would improve essential services. State-level governments in Venezuela have controlled the country's most important airports, sea ports and major highways since a move towards decentralisation began some 20 years ago, the AFP news agency says. Many of the facilities seized on Saturday have since then fallen under the jurisdiction of state governments often hostile to Mr Chavez. Power struggle Soldiers were seen moving into major sites on Saturday, among them the port at Maracaibo, Venezuela's main oil-producing city - an opposition stronghold in the state of Zulia, AFP reported. Facilities in at least three opposition-run states were seized, according to reports. Since the government lost a number of key seats, including the mayoralty of Caracas, in local elections last year, there have been regular clashes over jurisdiction between local mayors and the national government. The latest change to the law came just weeks after Venezuelans voted for a constitutional amendment granting Mr Chavez and other elected officials the right to stand for election beyond the previous limit of two terms. The socialist leader has indicated on several occasions that he intends to run again for office in 2012 and has talked of remaining in power until 2021.

I’ve been travelling this week-I’m in San Diego, going home tomorrow.

Point is, I’ve been in a few airports this week. We don’t watch CNN at home, but, as you know, it’s on 24/7 at every airport gate in America.

I swear, it’s like the telescreen in “1984”. Since we’re not members of the Inner Party, we can’t turn it off.

I was really shocked at the pure propaganda pouring out. Do any real Americans actually WATCH this sh*t?

Did you see this in the San Diago papers or on the TV?

Well known Cuban journalist defects in San Diego

March 21 - A prominent Cuban sports journalist, who was covering the international baseball tournament in San Diego, California, has defected to the United States.

Raul Arce, the sports editor of Juventud Rebelde, was not on the plane that on Thursday brought the Cuban delegation back from San Diego to Havana.

The news about the second defector were confirmed by Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro who in one of his “reflections” written on Friday insulted the two defectors without mentioning their names.

“Of the 75 who traveled to Mexico and San Diego, two poor devils didn’t return,” wrote the dictator.

Earlier this week Yuri Bouza, another journalist who traveled with the Cuban team, appeared on Miami’s television channels saying that he was not returning to Cuba.

Arce, 61 years old, is recognized internationally as one of Cuba’s most experienced sport writers.

CNN is just like 1984. I have no idea who watches it but every airport has it. It is total propaganda and I never watch it. Lou Dobbs is a good guy and I wish he would move to Fox.

The government rhetoric sounds familiar.

"Do any real Americans watch CNN?"

Rush had just a small blurb the other day. Top cable news networks:

1 - Fox News
2 - PMSNBC
3 - CNN Headline News
4 - CNN

FWIW...

"There are more underclass in Venezuela and Zimbabwe willing to fight for loot, than there are middle class people willing to fight against being looted."

Which is....exactly what will happen here with the Marxist thug and his commie cohorts in control, as they summarily destroy the middle class and make us ALL into that same underclass that will be forced to fight for food and necessities. And if Zero and his string-handlers and the UN get their way, we won't even have weapons with which to fight for that food and necessities.

I have but one question. What the hell are we waiting for???

Come now - he might send Hillary out to call this move “unhelpful.”

This could be us before we know it...

We (so far), unlike Venezuelans, still have the Second Amendment. So far.

Hopefully all the Capitalists have already escaped.

Many have, and a large number have relocated not far outside Orlando, FL.

Bill Ayers is pulling Chavez's puppet strings just like he is pulling our fearless leader's strings. There are plenty of these.

CNN's March Ratings So Far: More Lamb than Lion

More evidence that CNN is going to have to find a new strategy fast or risk becoming a cable news also-ran: In the month of March so far, the Time Warner-owned network has come in fourth place in prime time among adults 25 to 54, the key demographic for advertisers, more often than not.

Through March 17, CNN trailed not only Fox News and MSNBC but also its own sister network, Headline News, on nine out of 17 days. On one day, March 13, CNN even drew fewer 25-to-54 viewers than CNBC -- the first time that's happened since November 2007. And of the eight days it finished higher than fourth in the demo, five were either Saturdays or Sundays, typically the lowest rated nights for the news networks.

Wyatt’s TORCH is what they meant I think.

From Ayn Rand’s book “Atlas Shrugged”. Ellis Wyatt was a character who would rather burn his oilfields than turn them over to the government. One of the oil field fires wouldn’t go out and it became symbolic for his resistance. Hence - Wyatt’s Torch.
