Clinton Admits U.S. Demand Feeds Mexico’s Drug Trade
NYT ^ | March 25, 2009 | MARK LANDLER

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived here Wednesday with the clearest acknowledgment yet from a senior Obama administration official of the role the United States plays in the violent drug trade racking Mexico.

“Our insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade,” she said, using unusually blunt language. “Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians.”

How many years has it been since Michelle Malkin wrote "Invasion"? The Clintons did nothing then and Hillary is now mouthing the same old rhetoric only this time she is doing what Clinton's always did best, she is blaming America for it's citizen's "insatiable demand for drugs" but not demanding tougher laws to curb that habit-and-Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians.” trust me, that is complete BS Perhaps if Mexican citizens had a Second Amendment in their constitution rather than denying their right to protect themselves, perhaps Mexican citizens would have fixed the problem long ago. America's anti-gun folks will seize on this ONGOING BORDER PROBLEM to deny American citizens their Second Amendment rights.

By the was, Phoenix did not just start having drug related gang problems, they have been having them while Janet Napolitano was Governor of AZ....she did little to stop illegal aliens or drugs. Napolitano is another disappointing Obama appointment

O-BS she blamed America first like every issue. This is just NYT spin.

However, lets look at American’s use more gas but don’t kill each other over it. Drug dealers are simply evil.

Like Hillary.

She got part of it right. Her party’s base does like its drugs. But it isn’t our guns that are feeding the violence south of the border. That’s just a pretext to disarm law abiding Americans.

The cartels are packing military weapons. They aren’t coming from the US. You don’t buy machine guns and hand grenades and rocket launchers at Walmart.

Exactly. It is primarily DEMOCRATS that are the drug users and felons.

“Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians.”

The corrupt Mexican military is PART of the drug trade. Even without US guns, they would still have firepower.

If only there was something that could be built at the border that would block illegal smuggling...

Like legalizing marijuana. It would stop a major revenue source for the Mexican drug businesses and keep our drug dollars at home where they can be taxed.

I wonder why some terroist organization hasn’t figured out a way to lace drugs with cyanide or something. That ought to put the DNA to work and do their job.

This story will undoubtedly be used by the Hussein administration—not that they didn’t create it in the first place—to argue for: 1.New gun-grabbing legislation, 2.yet another look at legalizing drug use in the US. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit.

I have to agree with the biatch on the point about American demand for drugs. Drugs, debt, sex, booze, etc it all comes down to people’s need to escape, feel good and rot themselves and the broader society.

“Like legalizing marijuana.”

Oh, puleeze. Legalizing marijuana will do NOTHING to stop these criminals. They'll just continue on to the next profitable outlawed business that the idiots in the US will buy into. Marijuana is at the bottom of their food chain. Take off that link and their are plenty more to exploit.

And just who is responsible for this “U.S. demand” Hillary?

Perhaps the Woodstock Generation and its political advocates/protectors?

Our drug problems are a direct legacy of liberals. They caused the problem, we all suffer because of it, and yet they pretend they’re the solution.

First, if the drug cartels didn't get the guns from the USA they would get them from somewhere else.

Second, how about building the wall and closing the boarder. This would keep illegals and drugs from coming north and guns from going south. Win-win.
