This is the absolute most effective way to get their attention. Contact the alumni association and let them know this killer of the defenseless is not to be exalted; well, maybe not with such a strident tone.
BABIES ARE PUNISHMENT
FOR YOUNG MOTHERS
---BARACK OBAMA
Apparently. TOTUS doesn’t go anywhere without it’s empty suit.
And, I hear that nuts do not fall far from the tree!!!
Many who are not Catholic are in total agreement. Cut your donations to zero and let the alumni association know why when they call.
Steele believes a woman should be able to choose to kill her unborn child.
The ones that are offended with Obama being the speaker should not go, but wear their gowns and caps outside the ceremonies and hold signs like the one I suggested above.
Alternate graduation at another site. Convince one of the deans to hand out diplomas. Failing that, President of Student Council can hand them out.
If University won’t go along, sue them, individually.
The let those who support him show up. The point of this life is the next one. You are judged on your choices because you have free will. You have to stand up and not be counted among those that support him if you truely recognize his evil.
I was once at a country club near Washington when Clinton came in for a unannounced game of golf. My party, Republicans all, rushed over to see him. I did not. I will not repress my principles to be part of the crowd.
I’ve watched Catholics walk out on anti-abortion masses. They are wrong and shouldn’t be taking communion but at least they have the integrity of their conscious.
No one expects the hangers on, the Obamaphiles, to stay home. It would be great though if all the students were real Catholics and didn’t come. The administration could sit there and listen to The One pontificate to an empty stadium. That’s not going to happen but it wouldn’t be “silly’ if it did it would be a great day for the Church in America. Like I said, not “silly”.
Good to hear that some of the students are protesting this decision, too!
Of course not. But what’s done is done. Obama is now entering Notre Dame. Engage him, and defeat him. It’s a great opportunity to show him up, and TOTUS would not be of no use since these questions are ‘above his pay grade’.
I’m just saying, make the most of the opportunity.
I would love to see him engaged by ANYONE. They could have signs, I guess but who would speak against him? Not the administration so it seems. The bishops are boycotting. I imagine the affair as a captive audience listening to him read from TOTUS.
Ironically, my father walked out of my Duke graduation because some Notre Dame president talked for an hour about evil white people. I would have too if I had been sober enough to listen.
I know what you mean, that’s why in my original post I only mentioned having him come IF they changed the format to include a debate. And if Obama doesn’t agree to the format change, it’s a good opportunity for him to withdraw.
Otherwise, the only other way to get the point across (which may also be effective) is a mass walk-out. Given his proclivity to reading from TOTUS, he probably wouldn’t even notice until he saw the empty crowd.
All of this assumes that those running the University actually care about Catholic values. Given your story about your own graduation, something tells me that the University officials don’t give a rat’s *ss about life.
Many large Universities have smaller ceremonies within the different 'Colleges', at the time of Commencement. Our oldest son graduated from UMass Amherst, but he was in the Commonwealth College, which was the Honors group, and they had a special ceremony a couple of weeks before Commencement, where they received the special cords they could wear to the big ceremony. We didn't want to have to fool with the crowds on the day of the big Commencement, so we decided to use that special ceremony as our son's Graduation Day, and we attended that one, then went out to eat with him. He had a part time job driving for the area's bus system, so he worked extra hours and made some money on Commencement Day, driving folks back and forth from their parking on the outskirts of Campus to the stadium for Commencement.
Our #2 son graduated from Carnegie Mellon, and again, the School of Computer Science had it's own ceremony in the afternoon, AFTER the big Commencement. Again, we skipped the crowds, and attended the small one.
It would take some planning on the part of the students, but it could be done! If, for some reason, the school didn't allow them to have their ceremony on the campus, or at the Basilica, it could be done at any number of Catholic Churches in the area. They could invite the Bishop to attend their ceremony, since he's refusing to attend the larger Commencement.
The graduates will still get their diplomas, whether or not they attend the Commencement. The University will mail the diplomas to the students. If I'm not mistaken, none of the graduates receives the diploma on that day; they only receive the special holder for it, with the actual document coming later.
The Catholic church is wonderful in many ways, but it has a problem in promoting political princes.
Does anybody here think that the school will tolerate it even one percent of the treatment that Ann Coulter would have gotten from Left Wingers, from conservative students against the Obama visit? Or will any attempt at protest at the event be met with immediate expulsion and government investigation?
I remember something about money-changers at the Temple...
The Catholic bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind., announced Tuesday he will boycott President Barack Obama’s May 17 commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame, joining an estimated 80,000 people who have petitioned the university to rescind its plans.
Another local bishop is also boycotting. They have principles unlike my local bishop.
The original post was a wish: Wouldn’t it be great if no one showed up. Totally wishful thinking. I’m sure he does have enormous support there as he does with fools everywhere.
My original post suggested that I could just see him speaking but not getting an honorary degree. It would be great if there were actual Catholics at Notre Dame and no one came embarassing Obama and the president but, alas, it would never happen. So I don’t think it’s “Stupid” or “silly” to have the hope that nominal catholics are actual ones.
This is NOT the same thing. They are not only inviting him to speak, but are HONORING him with a degree. That's something completely different, and it SHOULD be protested.
“I can just barely see the argument for letting him speak but cannot imagine honoring him with a degree.”
What would he speak about? What moral authority does Barack Obama represent? He is not Catholic, in fact, he sat in a non-denominational church and listened to venom and hatred spewed towards the white race. Does he believe in the sancity of life? No, quite the opposite. Drugs? I think he has a problem there as well. What insight could he possibly offer to a graduating class that has hopefully followed the Catholic doctrine.
