Virginians soon will be able to choose a "Choose Life" license plate for their vehicles.
Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said yesterday that he has signed legislation that approves a number of specialty license plates, including one that bears the anti-abortion slogan.
"The practice has been for the General Assembly to allow statements of social political positions on these license plates," the governor said.
"The clear trend of [recent court] decisions was if the state allows plates that have messages . . . once a state does that, these plates should be allowed."
Then-Gov. Mark R. Warner, a fellow Democrat, vetoed similar legislation in 2003.

Does this mean that they allow an expression that opposes this expression? i.e. Choose Death? or Pro Choice? or Pro Abort?
See where I’m going with this?
Bump!
That's basically what Kaine said when he signed it.
That’s great. Now if only he would stop supporting a pro-infanticide, child pornographer-appointing socialist thug President.
You know, I’m always flumoxed by those people w/ Pro-choice bumper stickers. Why on earth would anyone want to advertise to the extent they took the effort to purchase and stick onto their car permanent sticker that they are pro-abortion? Sickos.
We have Conservative Ken Cuccinelli to thank for this...it is his bill!

Dear Friend,
Governor Tim Kaine today signed into law legislation that provides for the creation of a Choose Life license plate!
Thank you to everyone who contacted the Governor and urged his support of this bill! Thanks also to Senator Ken Cuccinelli (R-37, Fairfax) for his tremendous leadership in maneuvering this bill through the General Assembly (If youd like to thank Senator Cuccinelli, see the action at the bottom of this alert).
Since the fall of last year, pro-life Virginians through several organizations have rallied around the Choose Life plate, acquiring pre-paid applications required by DMV to be able to get the plates created, petition signatures and grassroots support. While Senator Cuccinellis original bill was killed in a Senate committee, he deftly amended an omnibus license plate bill on the Senate floor with the Choose Life plate, winning by a single vote (20-19).
Proceeds from the purchase of the plates will go to support pregnancy resource centers. These facilities offer medical, spiritual and physical support to women and families in crisis pregnancy.
Despite an all out assault by Planned Parenthood, NARAL Virginia and the ACLU, the Governor chose to dismiss the fallacious arguments of opponents and signed the bill into law.
These plates serve as an opportunity for both sides of the abortion discussion to come together and find common ground. As I told the media today, while all Virginians do not share the same understanding about exactly how public policy should address matters of abortion, many share compassion for the women and men whose lives are affected by an unplanned pregnancy. We know that those individuals need emotional support and tangible needs met.
In a letter I sent to Governor Kaine earlier this month, I reminded him that the Choose Life plate will provide private sector funding, not tax dollars, to organizations that support families caught in crisis situations. These entities provide STD testing, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling, classes on career-building, decision- making, parenting and relationship-building and information regarding abortion, adoption and parenting to help women make informed decisions. All of these services are free to clients. These entities reduce the number of women who appear at the doorstep of our tax dollar-funded state and local health centers. Contrary to the allegations of opponents to these plates, many of these centers that would receive funding are in medical facilities and are regulated as such. In many cases they are more rigidly regulated than abortion centers.
ACTION: Please send an email to Senator Cuccinelli by clicking the link below and thank him for his leadership on this issue!
If enough people pre-pay, yes, though probably "Pro-Choice" is the only one of those that would sell.
“”Why on earth would anyone want to advertise to the extent they took the effort to purchase and stick onto their car permanent sticker that they are pro-abortion?””
Yeah, why not just buy a grim reaper outfit and wear it around?
Oh, I’m sorry, that was offensive...to BABY KILLERS!
My guess? Because it goes with the 0bama sticker.
There should not even be any discussion over this! The only reason this was blocked, is that the militant fang-toothed feminazis threatened and intimidated the lawmakers. No one wants to receive the wrath of angry man-haters.
