Anti-reason on guns: Kaine vetoes five bills despite evidence as well as public support

When Tim Kaine campaigned for Virginia governor in 2005, he ran an ad implying that former National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston was praising him. His campaign claimed that "Tim Kaine strongly supports the Second Amendment." Once he won office, Mr. Kaine vetoed one gun bill after another that would have helped Virginians protect themselves from criminals.
Unfortunately, this past week, Mr. "strong Second Amendment supporter" Kaine vetoed all five pro-self-defense bills sent to his desk. His intransigence endangers public safety. Hopefully, the General Assembly's veto-override session, which starts today, can correct those mistakes.
All five vetoed bills passed with overwhelming bipartisan support - indeed, all but one bill got at least two-thirds support in both the Senate and the House. The governor knows he can be easily overriden. Showing how out-of-touch he is on this issue, Mr. Kaine vetoed some bills that even passed unanimously. So overrides seem likely unless Mr. Kaine can flip enough Democrats to sustain his vetoes.
Take Mr. Kaine's veto of the bill that would let retired law enforcement officers carry their guns in restaurants that serve alcohol. . . . .

The experience of other states "irrelevant"? I don't think so.
BTT.

Kaine's a rather "odd duck" sort of guy. He knows there's no sound reason for restrictive gunlaws in Virginia.
The legislature can take care of this by removing his special State Police guards.

Why would anyone trust a Democrat on gun control?

Maybe he is campiagning for a position as Holder’s assistant.
Hope the people of Virginia wake to this fool and get him out of office next time around.

Why would anyone trust a Democrat on gun control? When it comes to guns, liberals are all emotion and no logic.

What a sack of crap. Hopefully this will slap some sense into Virginians and get them to stop electing socialist-lite morons...

Kaine cannot be re-elected. Virginia governors only serve one term by law. Our best hope for our next governor is our current Attorney General, Bob McDonnell. He is solidly pro-gun.

Kaine’s bread is no longer buttered by the Virginian voters. Rather, he has his eyes on the DNC and national level dem party stars.
He is just establishing his street creds with them.
Virginia is just yesterday’s old suit to be thrown out now.
To: JohnRLott
The governor trusts active-duty officers, but somehow, as soon as they retire - even after years of service - they are no longer trustworthy.
Like politicians are no longer trustworthy once elected

Gun grabbing eyebrow ping.
And once again, I can find you the posts in 2005 where I argued with Freepers over this. Consider this yet another “I tried to warn you” post.

Don’t blame me, I voted against this clown. My vote was gerrymandered away, unfortunately, by those who want Bobby Scott (Dummycrat, VA) to have a guaranteed seat.

I didn't vote for this clown. After he got elected I researched him a bit and decided that he wasn't that bad, and I gave him a chance. He could have been much worse. After Obama got elected and the closer to the end of Kain's term the more he turned into a nut-job. He started out rather moderate, but now that he has a bigger goal all he does is spout DNC talking points, and has left Virginia. I wish Obama would have picked him for VP and get this useless tool out of this once fine state.

Oddly enough, in the bizarro world we seem to live in today, if you go over to DU, a lot of them are against gun control as well. They mostly see it as a way to help them rise up against the "fascist Republicans" when the time comes, but they are against it.
The more cynical realpolitik types realize that the Democrats' passion for gun control is what cost them the Congress in 1994, and want the Democrats to avoid any appearance of passion for gun laws until they get universal health care, climate change legislation, and all the other commie fascist bills that will forever destroy this nation.
