One would think FR Threads would be above this nonsense and leave this childishness to DU or tabloid magazines.

You must be a blast at parties....

seriously though, these people are ruining our country and turning it into a socialist regime. I'm gonna laugh at them and make fun of them every chance I get! They are classless clods that want all my hard earned money to pay for people like his illegal aunt.

Yeah, I'm gonna make as much fun of them as I want!

Is she dressing this horribly on purpose (the first photo)? This is in the top 5 of her ugliest outfits (the aqua/teal hiking boots with fur on the laces w/too short pants and her baby diaper green sweater set from the inaugural are in the top 2).

The two middle aren't sooo bad but the black dress w/sleeveless top is wrong for her shape. Plus, dresses w/tulle showing from under the dress are more for the young girls and prom.

‘Michelle thinks she has great arms’

She needs to put a jacket on, or wear sleeves, unless she’s going to the park with her kids or a dinner date with her husband.

Next, she should start to work on her posture.

If you’ve been wondering just who Ikram Goldman is and how she got to hold the position of Michelle Obama’s impromptu stylist, the New York Times sheds some light. Goldman, who owns “Ikram,” one of the First Lady’s favorite boutiques in Chicago, was the go-between between the raft of designers vying to dress Michelle Obama for the Inauguration.

According to the Times, “All details regarding the making of Mrs. Obama’s wardrobe for the inaugural were overseen by Ms. Goldman, who kept designers in the dark about whether their outfit would be chosen. ...They worked from measurements and other information provided by Ms. Goldman and delivered the finished garments to Chicago or Washington.” In many instances, bills for the dresses Michelle Obama ends up wearing are handled by Goldman too.

The Times piece seems to be kicking up dust about whether one person should hold that much power. Considering that Goldman owns a boutique and carries many of the young and independent designers Michelle Obama has placed a dizzying spotlight on, the piece questions whether her role as “gatekeeper” to the First Lady’s closet is a conflict of interest. It’s an interesting and valid question, but a little creepy too.

. “It is strange to think that the wife of the leader of the free world would choose clothes from only one store, when there is a wealth of clothes out there from other designers, including me,” designer Arnold Scaasi was quoted as saying.

“First and foremost, I wear what I love,” Obama told Andre Leon Talley in the cover story for Vogue’s March Issue — whether she’s mixing young indie labels with high-end designers, or shopping for the piece online, as she told Jay Leno she likes to do.

Meet Ikram Goldman - the woman with the keys to Michelle Obama’s closet

The Israeli-born Goldman, whose Rush St. shop is a mecca for Chicago’s best-dressed set, stands poised to become one of the most powerful players in the fashion industry worldwide.

Goldman does not hold an official title, but insiders predict she will be the person who’ll advise the fashion-forward First Lady on what to wear over the next four years.

The gold Isabel Toldeo dress-and-coat ensemble Obama wore yesterday was “special-ordered through Ikram,” says Wendy Donahue, a fashion columnist at the Chicago Tribune. “That Obama trusted her guidance for the first day of her tenure as First Lady would lead me to believe that she will continue to shape Obama’s style, and thus the image that America has abroad, during the White House years.”

Goldman - who was also responsible for selecting the Isabel Toledo pants and tunic Michelle wore on the campaign trail and the $17,000 Loree Rodkin diamond earrings she donned at Monday’s “We are One” concert - is known for her eclectic, often edgy tastes.

Thanks. I was blessed to have grown up with nearly all of my relatives in the same town. I treasure the days we spent with aunts, uncles, and our many, many cousins. My mom's sister is the only one left in her family and she also has a sil still living. Hard to realize that my generation will be the older ones in a few years. Of course, I have some cousins who were/are old enough to have been my parents. In fact, some of my cousins had children who were older than I and my younger sister. We just do not see each other nowadays since we are scattered across the country.

How Ikram Goldman became Michelle Obama’s closest fashion adviser

http://www.nypost.com/seven/02162009/photos/ikram.jpg

About a month before the presidential election, Ikram Goldman turned up in Paris wearing an oversize dress emblazoned with Barack Obama’s image, created for Goldman by the cult Japanese label Undercover.

The week of the inaugural, Michelle Obama turned up in Washington wearing, in a more subtle way, Goldman’s imprint, via designer dresses vetted through Goldman’s boutique, Ikram, in Chicago.

A month past the inauguration, both women might have hoped the media glare on their relationship would dim. But the Obamas’ first state dinner Sunday kindled another round of questions about her deep-purple sequin gown. (Some answers: It was designed by Peter Soronen and styled by Goldman with a Tom Binns necklace.) And at New York Fashion Week last week, curiosity greeted Goldman at every turn, with this simmering question: How did she earn a starring role in the first lady’s wardrobe choices?Adding a shrill note to the discussion was a story in The New York Times just before the shows kicked off. Influential fashion critic Cathy Horyn and Eric Wilson quoted veteran designers as saying that Obama is excluding a wealth of talent by relying on a retailer as gatekeeper, and suggesting that Goldman is advancing her own interests too directly. The company director for Jason Wu, who designed Obama’s inaugural gown and the dress she wears on the cover of March Vogue, told the Tribune that Wu is limiting his distribution to one store per city. In Chicago, that’s Ikram.

Goldman is friends with prominent fashion editors, such as Vogue’s Sally Singer, who exchange intelligence with Goldman during the international circuit of fashion shows.

That is one way Ikram has won the loyalty of high-profile Chicago women such as White House social secretary Desirée Rogers; Mellody Hobson, president of Ariel Investments; Linda Johnson Rice of the Ebony publishing empire; and Valerie Jarrett, a top aide to the president.

Goldman and Obama developed an abiding faith in each other’s causes. During the presidential race, Goldman’s customers and associates received e-mails urging them to support for Barack Obama. Goldman donated $6,900 to the campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Though some have complained that Obama has yet to wear anything from a black designer, it’s worth noting that Goldman contacted Tracy Reese, who is African-American, for dresses before the inauguration, though Obama has yet to wear them.

Another potential controversy was that Wu wasn’t paid for the ball gown. But he was told that, if worn, it would be donated to the Smithsonian Institution. He said he was satisfied with that place in fashion history—one that’s shared by Ikram.

We badly need class, character, integrity, and leadership in front of our country.

Mich and Barry never seem to fit in - no matter what they wear, the gifts they give, the engagements and speeches - it just never seems to work. They are never genuine. I bet some 24 y/o intern thought of the iPod with Barry's famous speeches on it.

It's like they try to offend others by saying the wrong things, addressing the wrong world leaders, giving odd gifts, insulting treasured customs, and wearing inappropriate clothing for an event.

Pres Bush was so genuine in smiling and laughing when he goofed up during a speech. Laura was thoughtful, classy, and distinguished right next to him. Such a contrast.

I was close to all Mama's siblings as I was growing up. We used to go over to my Granny's house on Sunday afternoons, and we cousins would just run all around the vacant lot next door. We had such fun!

I left my hometown I was 23, the year after we married, but went back often, so I've kept in touch with my Aunts, Uncles and cousins. But it will be nice to be back, and be able to attend all the family gatherings, without having to travel long distances.

I was seriously dynamite in my mint green spaghetti strap summeer dress, with the mini-pleated full skirt and three, count them! Three crinolines, one yellow, one pink and one white. Worn, of course, with my mint green skimmers and white gloves. Had a little net hat-let with it, too. And yes, the purse was mint green.

Sigh.

That takes me back to the excitement of receiving the Spring-Summer edition of the Sears Book, with a sunny day picture on the front of a smiling lady in a shirtwaist, available in an array of ice cream colors.

"Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer..."

You wuz da Bomb!

“It is strange to think that the wife of the leader of the free world would choose clothes from only one store”

Correction : with Obama in the White House, the leaders of the Free World are now Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France, and Bibi Netanyahu, PM of Israel.

Their wives are classy ladies who know how to dress properly for every occasion.

I saw the youtube, and yes, they were lining up for the photo, and MO just kind of bumped him out of the way to stand next to the Queen. Poor Philip was trying to stay on his feet.
