There's been a whole lotta shootin' going on out there in recent times.
Just wondering how many Freepers are employed at Companies that prohibit firearms on the property.
I am curious as to how common a practice that is. If you don't mind, please sound off on what your Company's policy is, whether you are the Employer or the Employee.
Anything you could add, regarding any incidents of violence, use of firearms in self-defense, etc., at the workplace, would be most appreciated.
I plan on using the information I gain as "ammunition" to get my Employer to reverse its policy prohibiting firearms. Thank you in advance for your help!!

No, it’s not in the company rules. But the boss is a Republican and very vocal about it. He’s hunter as well.

I work in the operations center of a bank and it’s a no weapons facility. We are fairly well locked down, at least beyond the main lobby.
My husband runs his own business. He carries. And he encourages his employees to do likewise (service-type business).

That's in our handbook, too. That's what I'm trying to get changed...
Last year or so, a business owner less than 2 miles from our office was shot & killed in his own office by someone who just walked in off the street. That fact will be one of the things I use to prove my case.

You are certainly safer than those who will have a SWAT team arrive in minutes and then take hours to "assess" the situation before going in to rescue you.Without a doubt. These cops in our place are literally like family. Most have been with us for ten years or more ( at $43 an hour, it's great special duty.) But seriously, they're part of the team.

You dont really need a gun, do ya? Heck, the Army taught me how to kill a man with a No. 2 yellow pencil! If I can do it, anyone can. :)
Your point is well-taken, but honestly, if they're armed & shooting up the place, I'd rather not have to get that close to stop them.

Do the Columbus police department people obey the no-gun signs too? Why NOT?

I worked at Dawn Foods for a while. It was a firing offense to have a camera. They kept their recipe books in a safe.

Seriously, these guys are great. We have stuff on site that bad guys would literally kill for.

At my office, it’s my father and I and we’re as pro gun as it gets. He carries a Sig 245 and I carry a S&W M&P40c.

However he didn't get too upset if there was one locked in our cars.
I hadn't thought about it from the "insurance" perspective. Maybe I can check into the "locked in the car" allowance, if my initial attempt fails (although "locked in the car" doesn't make me feel that much better...)

The boss wasn’t overjoyed about the situation but he just couldn’t afford the extra insurance. He was the same way about smoking. He hated sending us outside but again it was an insurance thing.
Our boss did know who could shoot and several of us were allowed to know where the gun was and had easy access to it.

Why, of course! I’d want to know if any of them were “locked & loaded”!! (Another wise-guy, I guess I asked for it, huh?)

I work for an Architecture office and we do a lot of historic renovation type work which involves site visits to long condemned or abandoned properties.
Three years ago I was with a senior partner at a job site when we encountered 2 squatters and what appeared to be the remnants of a meth lab.
After we left the site (nothing happened this time, we just said "excuse us" and left) I suggested to the boss that we should start arming ourselves when working in the field. Not only did he agree, the 3 of us that do most of the out of office work got a Friday off to attend CCW class.

In my lateral file at work, in the drawer marked G-J, I have a loaded 20 gauge, cut off to 18.5.”
Not that I’m expecting any trouble, but if it happened, I don’t want to have my hand in my pants and a bullet in the head.

I have worked on more sites than i care to remember Several states, and several countries, and I never knew any that permitted firearms. One of the Major Oil companies I worked for even had a massive dog search and fired a couple of men for firearms locked in cars, and also MJ seeds in purses. No, I wasn’t caught up in this, as I was a contractor, and only Company people were searched.
