Canadian Pilot Steals Plane; Wisconsin Capitol Evacuated

Two F-16 fighters were dispatched this afternoon to track a single-engine plane over Wisconsin that was believed stolen in Canada by a student pilot, authorities said.
The incident caused the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison to be evacuated as a precaution.
Mike Kucharek of the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado says that by 5:30 p.m., the Cessna 172 was south of Madison and headed southwest.
Kucharek says the plane was stolen from Thunder Bay, Ontario, about 2:30 p.m. and the pilot had been flying erratically and had not communicated with the fighter pilots, who intercepted the plane at the Michigan-Wisconsin border.
Capitol police ordered everyone out of the building and told them to go at least a block away from the building. Police cars with sirens drove on the sidewalks by the doors of the Capitol.
Others drove on the streets of the Capitol square, telling people to move away.
