Readers, have a say in saving your paper

The newspapers had years of declining circulation before they started falling. CNN and MSNBC are about five years behind along the same path. Check their ratings.

Tell me. What does this newspaper mean to you?

..it means after 4 years of being bird cage carpet..the bird wants a new government kitchen and bathroom, free gas, be included in the census, a position with ACORN,wants to shoot basketball with Bambi on his next free ride to wherever,expects a low interest loan directly from the government so he could default on his government paid reconditioned home with trailer hook up, wants the DNC to back him for the vacated Senate seat when Kennedy kicks off, and wants two female campaign workers who like to partaaaaay

I believe that statement as much as I believe the rest of the garbage the Globe spews.

At best, they used a push poll. At worst, they made up this statistic like they make up most of the "facts" they report.

I honestly first read this as:

HEY GLOBE readers, can you spare A DIME

Must have forgotten about those who will not subscribe because of content.

Agreed. The Cleveland Plain Dealer calls from time to time. When they ask my wife why she won't subscribe, she says "I don't subscribe to liberal rags". I saw her do it at a sales booth in a retail store once. The look on the guy's face was priceless.

I love this part:

He disagrees with what conservatives site as the problem then goes on to list what the "big reasons" are.

Well, if he knows what the big reasons are why is he asking in this column for reader input into what the reasons are?

When I canceled my local newspaper the woman was actually quite polite. She asked me the reason and I responded it was due to their liberal slant. She said they receive that complaint quite often, and perhaps I could just skip over the editorial page. I told her I was referring to the front page. Oh, she said, how about the Sunday ads?

Same here. I was called by the Austin un American Ultra Liberal Non Statesman to let me know our subscription was due for renewal. I told the lady that they had reached their limit when they ran a front page story titled:

Third Chimp Escapes From Bastrop Research Center

Normally they would have that in the Metro and State section. Just in front of the article, they had President Bush's picture. That was the last time I opened the paper. I sent a letter to the editor about that incident. I told my neighbor to see if it made the letters to the editor, but it was never published.

Read the comments. It is three to one blaming slanted coverage for dropping the paper.

I was in the belly of the beast for nearly 10 years. It was very educational to say the least. The majority of those in the newsroom and on the street were liberals, pure and simple. Everything they think, write or publish wreaks of liberal spin. I was in the news photo department. It was a hoot to watch a page designer,reporter and a couple of editors come in near deadline and look for art to accompany a story they were doing. You can be sure they chose art that supported their stand on the subject of the article. They will run a story sans art rather than have to use a flattering picture of someone they don’t like, like George Bush.

I practically came to blows a couple of times with reporters who barged into the photo lab demanding to see the out takes of a shoot in hopes of finding something less positive!

And the sad thing is, they don’t even know that they’re biased and spinning everything they write or print to support their bias. Even if you tortured them they would insist they are objective in their output.

The Globe already tried this and it failed. Not enough people will pay for the Globe’s on line content.

Hm. I can read exactly one word on that newspaper lining that cage. Interesting. LOL

The problem with a newspaper is that you have to be able to read in order to have it be of much value to you. Our public schools have turned out graduates that can't read their diploma, let alone a newspaper, for so long that there's no longer enough people who can read to support them!

Schools have dumbed-down students to the point where very few of them care enough about current events to require the in-depth coverage a newspaper can provide compared to TV or radio. Add their poor reporting and liberal bias to that and you have a deadly combination for the newspapers.

HEY...DUMBASS...maybe it's because all the conservative readers left years ago, and the only readers remaining are the anti-corporatists, who have just figured out where they were getting their paychecks from.

(I fully realize that all sensible, thinking Americans — that’d be conservatives —fully understand this information. I post it only for the brain-dead Obama voters and statists — that’d be liberals — who might have slipped out of their rubber rooms over at DU and are lurking, hacking or generally causing trouble here at FR.)

Recently, I read what probably amounts to the obituary for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. (My wife insists on buying the Sunday edition for the TV guide.) It joins the growing list of print newspapers in deep, deep financial trouble. The LA Times, NY Times, Boston Globe, Cleveland Plain Dealer, etc.

Here’s my horseback analysis of why they’re heading for extinction.

As generally liberal statist propaganda outlets, they have for decades supported a government “education” system (and I used the term very loosely) dominated by the NEA and the idiot bureaucrats running the DOE in Washington. The unions and the NEA have largely hurled the traditional three “Rs” and critical thinking skills under the bus in favor of touchy-feely diversity training, self-esteem building, political correctness, African studies, teaching Hispanic kids in SPANISH instead of teaching them English on day one, social promotions, basket weaving, navel gazing, etc., etc.

What I cannot grasp is precisely why, after effectively dumbing down the members of the American populace who have traversed the conveyor belt of mediocrity called government schools, the overeducated owners and operators of these newspapers are surprised that this population has lost its interest in READING NEWSPAPERS: Many of them CAN’T read!!

Those folks – especially conservatives who resent the increasingly liberal drivel found in the major papers — who can and DO read things are now getting their information from the Internet or, for those too busy to actually read, from largely conservative talk radio (which helps explain why Algore, Pelosi, Reid, et al feel the need to control both these formats).

Their statist dumbing down has produced huge numbers of voters who lacked the critical thinking skills necessary to determine that their present-voting, slick-talking liar of a candidate had virtually NO management or legislative experience. And the economic illiterates they have elevated to high office in Washington for years have produced a growing economic crisis which has even those with any money left spending it on “luxuries” like food, clothing and shelter. Newspapers and advertising therein are far down the list.

And did I mention that the economic collapse Obama “inherited” has its genesis in Jimmy Carter’s Community Reinvestment Act? It was then expanded by Clinton and stridently defended by Chris Dodd, Maxine Waters and Barney Frank (who was sleeping with Herb Moses while he held a top spot at – appropriately – Fannie). Only government could turn the dream of home ownership for poor folks into a NIGHTMARE for the rest of us.

Now that they have control of the White House and both houses of Congress, the liberals who run most of the newspapers here SHOULD be on a beach somewhere throwing a huge party. Instead, they are dusting off their resumes. The Editor of the AJC informed us that she was actively seeking to get more conservative/traditional values writers in the pages down there. I’d submit that it’s too little, too late!

Perhaps she’ll write and let us know if that “Hope” and “Change We Can Believe In” thing helps with the job search.

If you just have to have one of those 1,000 new jobs dunning folks for Tim Geithner’s IRS, it couldn’t hurt.

I worked at the Boston Globe during college as part of a work-study program and all college employees were forced to join the union but we received none of the union benefit and weren’t allowed to vote during union elections.
