Most of them had CC permits (and the ones I don’t know about might have).

Spent many a coffee talking about it. A lot of times the driver had been held up once before, and then decided to protect himself.

I’m sorry, but WOW. He posts breaking news that he heard on CBS RADIO, and when you can’t see it on their website 18 minutes after his post, you become the posting Police? So you don’t realize it takes seconds to hand a piece of paper to someone who is live on the radio to read, but it may take a bit more than 18 minutes to format and edit and proof read and approve a WEBPAGE for publication?

Good grief - in this age of instant news, you really need it to be instant? And it must be a hoax if it’s not on the internet, right?

Just wow.

"The 17,000-ton Maersk Alabama was carrying emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya, when it was hijacked, said Peter Beck-Bang, spokesman for the Copenhagen-based container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk."

I'm going slightly off topic here.

How often does Kenya receive emergency relief from USA?
What is the present emergency?

I can't help but think that perhaps this pirate attack has God's hand in it. How else would we find out about this particular shipment to Kenya?
Personally, I think Italy needs emergency help right now.

Sending prayers of protection and safe return for the Captain, crew and rescuers.

Quote from Foxnews:. "As merchant vessels we do not carry arms. We have ways to push back, but we do not carry arms."

Would someone please explain WHY they don't???

We need something like a submarine and divers to appear without warning.

Problem is they likley would not be carrying SEALs...

Not quite... but if told you anymore I would have to kill you... ;-)

A lifeboat too can also sink, and then what? It just requires a certain touch, a sharp touch from below.

The emergency is Obama's cousin tried to steal their election and is now PM.

LAUGH OF THE DAY
Somali pirate activity is at least partly, a reaction to illegal dumping of toxic waste and illegal fishing on the Somali coast by industrialized nations. Other countries have taken advantage of the instability in this country for years by dumping illegal toxins into the water causing respiratory infections, mouthbleeds, chemical skin reactions and abdominal hemmorage to nearby residents. This country, one of the poorest in the world is ill-equipped to defend itself against such actions and, while this does not justify piracy, it illustrates that this issue is more complex than can be attributed to selfish, thug criminals. As our world is increasingly interconnected through globalization, it will be more and more difficult for developed nations to be unaffected by the poverty of instable, corrupt and impoverished nations such as Somalia.

Agreed. I vote you delete all 450 “he said/he said” posts. Especially from the ONE who won’t admit he was a jerk and move on. I’m tired of reading his poop. Not to mention, we spend half our time complaining how the MSM never gets it right, buries the real story, adds a liberal slant, “you can’t believe everything you read on the internet”, etc., and now he says he will only believe the MSM, and only when it appears on their website?? Whatever!!

Delete all the useless posts, including this one!!

"The emergency is Obama's cousin tried to steal their election and is now PM."

I'm aware that its going to his cousin. I want to know all the details about this shipment. I also wonder if bark turned white when this ship was hijacked. "oops! I've been exposed" type thought.

Darn, if we had known a ship was going to Kenya, the Boston aunt should have been on it - special cargo. I'm sure she could have been given a free ride. The pirates would have ignored this ship.

Obama is working on the pirates citizenship papers personally right now along with some extra welfare benefits to make sure they are off to a good start.

What a great community organizer he is ....

Post maybe earlier in this thread or maybe on another thread regarding this incident said that Kenya was having a foot shortage crisis affecting about a tenth of the population after the violence associated with the recent election (i.e. Obama’s alleged 1st cousin). I don’t have that post at my fingertips, but IIRC it attributed it in part to a current drought, in part do to general corruption and in part due to some scandal associated with misuse of the national grain reserves. I don’t know, but wouldn’t be surprised, if the cousin had something to do with the latter two.

You said: “I don?t figure on ever getting the full story until a few days has passed...”

Then WHY are you even on a BREAKING NEWS thread in the first place?? Why don’t you spend your time on the “48-hour Old News” threads and leave threads like this alone?

And regarding your statement that unless something has backup, it’s bogus: So if a FReeper is an eye-witness to a murder of 10 people and posts here from his Blackberry while hiding in the attic, you’re going to call him a liar, say he made it up, and that it’s a hoax, and tell the Admin Moderators to delete or lock the thread until YOU can read it on the CBS website, which will be 5 hours later, after the perpetrator has held law enforcement at bay for a few hours and after all of the next of kin of the dead have been notified... But even after YOU “verify” it by seeing it on the CBS website (which will not get the facts right anyway), you will still not apologize to the original poster, right? Of course not. You don’t have it in you.
