My guess is none of the American Crew were liberals like Barack Hussein.
Barack Hussein would have apologized to the pirates for years of capitalist expoloitation of third world nations, forcing medical advances, better agricultural practises, public sanitation and personal hygeine on their co-religionists. He would have tried to understand the pirates culture and world view. Finally, he would have whipped out a few ACORN membership applications for them.

I think this might be acceptable as it is closer to execution than torture. We can still execute them I believe. Still, did they hit the water with any weights attached or holes in the flesh? If not, the pirates might have chance, if they are good swimmers. It's only 400 miles to land.
