Warren's 'backsliding' on homo marriage hurts church, Evangelical "pastor" apologizes on Larry King

A Washington, DC, pastor and outspoken opponent of same-sex "marriage" says California mega-church pastor Rick Warren has done "tremendous damage" by apologizing for his support last fall of California's marriage protection amendment.

Rick Warren said Monday on CNN's Larry King Live that he has "never been and never will be" an "anti-gay marriage activist," and made a point to inform the program's host that he apologized to his homosexual friends for comments he made in October to his church in support of Proposition 8 in California.

Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., with the High Impact Leadership Coalition says he was very disappointed with Warren's statements on CNN.

"This man who's been called the next Billy Graham, who I really respect with all my heart and love what he's doing in Africa, is falling into a trap that is emblematic of the problem that the entire church is facing in this generation," Jackson states. "And that is that we love the applause of men more than we love the work of God and the gospel. Jesus...told us that we are to honor God first, and that we are not to fear men but we're to fear God."

Jackson argues that Warren was "aiding and abetting a deception around what kind of stance the Bible calls Christians to take" by telling Larry King that opposing the recent Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage was "not his agenda."

"He is the author of The Purpose Driven Life book," Jackson notes, "and therefore people are going to think, 'Well, this is not on my mission -- it's not on my purpose. I don't have to stand for truth.'

"Therefore, his defection -- in terms of his stance on this issue -- [and] his backsliding on this issue, becomes of tremendous damage to the strength of the church in this position."

Warren told King on Monday that he "never once even gave an endorsement" during the Prop. 8 campaign. However, in late October -- just weeks before the November 4 election -- the pastor told his congregation: "Now let me say this really clearly: we support Proposition 8 -- and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8." (Read a complete transcript of those comments)

Pastor Warren has not yet responded to a request from OneNewsNow for an interview.

He and “Pastor” Haggard should hook up.

Right...along with all those homo priests.

How many people have been led astray by these evil teachers?

Confirmation of what I have believed all along. his theology is about an inch deep, and he doesn’t understand the clear teaching of Scripture!

The only good response is exactly what the Bible says about it...

Romans 1:16-32

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,

23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,

25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.

27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,

30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

It’s kind of hard to top that...

The "touchy feely" or "feel good" churhes are, in general, in the Evangelical tradition ~ to a degree.

It's not like they're Roman Catholic or anything like that.

Best bet on using the word "Evangelical" is to remember that it means "Protestant" ~ just like "Reformed".

This makes me sad, because I’ve defended Pastor Warren against a lot of believers who have accused him of compromising his faith, because of his associations with “sinners”. On that point alone, Jesus wouldn’t be very popular in most Christian churches either, because he hung in the roughest neighborhoods with the undesirables of society. That said, I don’t know what Pastor Warren does with “a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

Like my children say to me (when I had to explain Prop 8 signs here in CA on Election Day) — “Mommy, the puzzle pieces don’t fit with two men, do they?”

No, children...the puzzle pieces do NOT fit.

I always thought of Warren on the scale of an Oprah type guest. Trying to “out love” God is playing in the Devil’s playground. And remember, you always have to “pay” to play.

AMEN!! Don’t buy their wares and don’t step into their kingdoms!!

People are going to find out as time goes on...the Whore of Genesis and that very same Whore of Revelation (very old..the same, from the beginning of the Book to the end of the Book) is RELIGION! That she is in bed with the Beast (Gov.) and these two systems..Gov. and Religion joined to crucify Christ.
Organized Religion and I don’t care WHAT they call themselves or WHAT they claim to be is in bed with the Beast as a Whore with their tax exempt status. Take any whore on any street corner making her money EVEN IF she spends it ALL for good...she is STILL a whore.
TRY to find a church with no tax exempt status...challenge your pastors about it and see how they dodge and weave.

Christ paid his taxes..”Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s” God provided out of a fishes mouth...Christ didn’t keep it..He paid it. He did not make deals with Rome to build His kingdom...not then...NOT NOW!!
THERE is NO separation of Church and State..lies..deception!

“There is a way that seems right unto man that leads to destruction.” How close are we????

When the Beast is done with the Whore he will turn on her.
Those who know will see the hand of God when he allows what we have been deceived to think is GOOD to be destroyed. God’s people will prevail outside of these whorish systems. “Come OUT of her my people.” We have been warned!

I too have defended Pastor Warren....mostly regarding words attributed to him that he did not say. Having reviewed the video of him on LKL the most important word left out in his reply was the word ACTIVIST. He did not say he was for gay marriage, only that in opposing gay marriage he was not an ACTIVIST. We all have our own ideas/opinions of the present definition of ACTIVIST.
The part that bothered me was his saying that he did not endorse prop. 8. He did in his church, but I do not know if he went public: tv, newspaper ad, radio, or billboard with an endorsement.

I have too. I have thought that some critics of Purpose-Driven Church and Purpose-Driven Life were off-base. I don't endorse those books but they are not as bad as their critics suggest.

There is absolutely NO reason for a Christian to apologize for opposing gay marriage.

Warren is serving [attempting to serve] two masters.

Those two masters are obama and himself.

Rick Warren and the Osteens are frauds. They love the Islamo-abortionist. Hopefully their “flock” will wake up before they are sheared by these stinking hucksters.

What makes me sick are there are probably many good pastors and priests close to Warren or the Osteens “churches.”

They probably are real men of God but they do not have the “marketing savvy” these stinking con artists have. I hope the faithful desert these frauds and seek honorable pastors and priests.

Warren adn the osteens are pitchmen for products and books. They are scum like Notre Dame.
