A Washington, DC, pastor and outspoken opponent of same-sex "marriage" says California mega-church pastor Rick Warren has done "tremendous damage" by apologizing for his support last fall of California's marriage protection amendment.
Rick Warren said Monday on CNN's Larry King Live that he has "never been and never will be" an "anti-gay marriage activist," and made a point to inform the program's host that he apologized to his homosexual friends for comments he made in October to his church in support of Proposition 8 in California.
Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., with the High Impact Leadership Coalition says he was very disappointed with Warren's statements on CNN.
"This man who's been called the next Billy Graham, who I really respect with all my heart and love what he's doing in Africa, is falling into a trap that is emblematic of the problem that the entire church is facing in this generation," Jackson states. "And that is that we love the applause of men more than we love the work of God and the gospel. Jesus...told us that we are to honor God first, and that we are not to fear men but we're to fear God."
Jackson argues that Warren was "aiding and abetting a deception around what kind of stance the Bible calls Christians to take" by telling Larry King that opposing the recent Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage was "not his agenda."
"He is the author of The Purpose Driven Life book," Jackson notes, "and therefore people are going to think, 'Well, this is not on my mission -- it's not on my purpose. I don't have to stand for truth.'
"Therefore, his defection -- in terms of his stance on this issue -- [and] his backsliding on this issue, becomes of tremendous damage to the strength of the church in this position."
Warren told King on Monday that he "never once even gave an endorsement" during the Prop. 8 campaign. However, in late October -- just weeks before the November 4 election -- the pastor told his congregation: "Now let me say this really clearly: we support Proposition 8 -- and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8." You know...I had a feeling about this guy. I watched him very closely during the debates. I knew something wasn’t right about him, but, I couldn’t put my finger on it.
If he still has a congregation, they might ought to start praying for his soul. Unfortunately, he has gone to the dark side.
No — love and compassion and gentleness STARTED with Jesus 2,000 years ago. It’s not one bit wrong to be “touchy-feely” as you put it. God gives us all feelings for a deep purpose— to extend His love to others. When we use it to remain immature and undisciplined, it becomes something other than the way God intended for us.

There are quite a number of genuin mega church pastors however those above are at the top of the false prophet list as far as I’m concerned.

Do you remember one time all during the bash Bush years any of the super duper preachers coming down on the lying liberals? I sure do not, they half acted like they thought Rev. J Wright was on to an upcoming revelation.
I do not know if Warren has a donkey, but if he did, I would be expecting to be hearing from that donkey any day now.
I cannot begin to describe my surprise when I discovered during Clintons terms how many BGraham followers were also bjclinton voters supporters. Every week there was a poll announced giving the high popularity of old bill, and it was most disconcerting to hear from these ‘good’ Baptist churchgoers about how God says to ‘hate’ the sin but love the sinner.
I think that is why algore lost because he shunned bjclinton and so these clinton followers voted for President Bush or stayed home.
The term refers to the people who lived along the "main railroad line" leading into Philadelphia. At the time it was invented I don't believe Methodists were part of the "Mainline" either.
You can measure “touchy feely” by how they vote, evangelicals vote conservative, no religious group is less PC than evangelicals.

Mainline "churches" are much more liberal than Evangelical churches.
ALL Protestant churches are "Evangelical".
I know Brother Billy preached a mighty good sermon, but he really shocked me when he said that people can get to Heaven another way than through Christ.
He also shocked me when he told Barbara Walters in a 20/20 interview that he supported abortion in the cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.
In "The Billy Graham Christian Worker's Handbook"(copyright 1997 edition), on page 19, he writes: "We should accept abortion in these cases: rape or incest or if the delivery of the child is a threat to a mother's life."

The chart in post 50 is from CNN and it shows that from all protestants Clinton only got 41% of their vote, from white protestants he only got 36%. Protestants were the most anti-Clinton people in America.

Every Christian body that's not Roman Catholic, nor Orthodox, nor Coptic, is "Evangelical".
French usage, where they fought the so-called "Religious Wars" of the 1500s, is to refer to all Protestant, etc. bodies as "Evangelical" ~ and I think they know what they're talking about.
It's only American news media who are unable to accept the fact that Protestantism is real and diverse.
Some confusion arose during the Thirty Years War when it was necessary to differentiate between the two Protestant factions, one of which was pretty much entirely Lutheran and the other Reformed.
We unfortunately have "some" who want the term "Evangelical" to be restricted to the Pentecostals ~

I do not care what CNN claims, they have NO history of being on the ‘right’ side of truth since their inception.
The Grahams were very very very quiet regarding this past election, that is until after Bama won and then they took issue with his lack of being ‘pro-life’. Now it is represented that the majority of ‘religious’ voters are conservative, but my life's experience with the people I come in contact with says these people that spout the WWJD slogan believe very much in a ‘social’ justice Jesus.
