Meghan McCain: We Need More Gay Republicans! By David Knowles Apr 13th 2009 10:00AM

Here's a question: Can Meghan McCain, the blog-a-lot daughter of Senator John McCain, help bring the Republican Party into the twenty-first century? Well, with her column at The Daily Beast, and during her many television interviews, she sure is giving it a go. Today's screed, for instance, attempts to light a fire under the Republican posterior on the matter of including gay rights in the party platform:

If the Republican Party has any hope of gaining substantial support from a wider, younger base, we need to get past our anti-gay rhetoric. As you can image, the road for gay Republicans hasn't been an easy one. Most find the words "homosexual" and "conservative" inherent contradictions, much the same way so many people can't seem to reconcile fiscal conservatism and the bit-tent philosophy of freedom and justice for all.

Later in the piece, Ms. McCain goes on to point out that supporting gay marriage rights does not necessarily come at the expense of other conservative values, like an opposition to abortion:

Recently, a conservative congressman was quoted saying, "If we don't save marriage, we can't remain pro-life." That's absurd.

She also adds:

So if anyone is still confused, let me spell it out for you. I believe life begins at conception and I believe that people who fall in love should have the option to get married.

So, McCain's argument is two-fold. Supporting gay rights is both pragmatic (the overwhelming majority of younger people support gay marriage) and moral (gay rights are human rights). It's an interesting mix. Part Libertarian, part party activist. The pragmatic part runs aground, however, when we consider the nation's views on keeping abortion legal.

The ROAD apple doesn't fall far from the horse's a$$ it came from.

Disagreed that McCain will learn anything. He’s so full of himself that he sh*ts little McCains.

this is the MSM trying to split the youth from the republicans.

Look at the environwackos pushing children to ORDER dad to buy the compact florescent bulbs. (as if a high mercury light should be anywhere near where a child might break it)

This is pure goebles/hitler, steal the children and you steal the country.

Excuse me, MS. McCain, but I think most republicans and conservatives are very happy people. Certainly happier in general than libs.

Oh.....

That's not what you meant????

Meghan McCain, deep thinker and future leader of the Republican party. I just love how someone who has accomplished nothing and piggyback’s on someone else’s fame all of the sudden thinks any serious people want to actually listen to her.

Meghan dear, most of us don’t care if the Republican standing next to us is gay or not - we DO care if he displays his sexual preference in public or uses it to force his lifestyle upon those who don’t care for it. I have several friends who are gay, and as long as they do their business in private and leave me alone about it, I could care less.

Well..., they can have the health issue part of it..., it doesn’t make any difference to me, that way. They could even make it “healthy” (by some science or technology) and it still wouldn’t make any difference.

The Creator’s word in the Bible is the *only thing* that makes a difference. In fact, I would say that if it were healthy and extended your life by a factor of two, making them the longest-living individuals in our present-day society — it would be an abomination, regardless...

We need less mealy mouth, middle of the roaders, hung up on attracting “minorities” instead of staying true to conservative principle Republicans.

She’s as much of a voice for the Republican Party as Ron Reagan Junior or Al Franken is.

So according to Meghan McCain the people of the United States should give up their right to representation on issues of sexuality and just lets the activists have their way with redefining our Constitution. So while these same activists attack religion and family values we as Republicans should embrace their fight to make sexuality a more cherished right of expression then expressions of religion and/or family values.

Meghan McCain is a twisted and sick woman, imo. She makes me feel ill in knowing that I voted for her father who obviously has installed these sick, twisted values in her.

All I could find: Meghan McCain is the eldest child of Arizona Sen. John McCain and his wife, Cindy McCain. Born in 1984, Meghan McCain has two brothers, John (Jack, born 1986) and James (born 1988), as well as an adopted daughter, Bridget, who John McCain and Cindy McCain adopted from Bangladesh in 1991. Meghan McCain graduated from Columbia University in 2007 with a major in Art History. She was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. While in school, she worked for Saturday Night Live and Newsweek.

Unpretentious and refreshingly frank for a young woman who could be the next First Daughter, Meghan McCain is following her famous dad on the campaign trail and blogging about politics as well as pop culture. \

“...much the same way so many people can’t seem to reconcile fiscal conservatism and the bit-tent philosophy of freedom and justice for all.”

What is a bit-tent?

And how does “freedom and justice for all” including scofflaw invaders who steal identities, evade background checks, vote illegally, and generally pick and choose which laws to recognize deserve “justice”? Safe habor does not provide justice. It provides grace and mercy from a punishment that IS deserved.

'Gay Rights' is bull. Its a Strawman argument as they already have every 'Right', like anyone else does. They want to get married fine, they have that Right;
Lance can marry Betty, or Betty can marry Bruce, or Bruce can marry Jane.
BUT - Lance can't marry Bruce and Betty can't marry Jane.

Its just like I can marry Marie, but I CAN'T marry my Dog.

It seems like eons ago but Lawrence v. Texas (539 U.S. 558) was only decided a few short years ago, in 2003. And after they 'gays won', I specifically recall all the 'gay rights leaders' saying they 'only wanted' anti sodomy laws overturned, the government out of the bedroom for consenting adults, and that they'd NEVER push for gay 'marriage'.

Well 'never' didn't last long, now did it.

The Pravda Media is busy selling the lie that Meghan McCain is the GOP’s only hope to appear “young and hip”.

Except Meghan McCain ISN’T considered hip by young America. She’s considered a welcome foil by the Establishment (liberal) media. Old fart baby boomers.

The Protest Warrior people of some years back were HIP.

She’s as much a tool as Cindy Sheehan. And they both willingly let themselves be exploited. She needs to be prepared for the fall that her handlers in the media are setting her up for (they stabbed her father in the back during the 2008 scampaign).

These clowns are starting to remind me of the Clintons and their strategy.

Juan McClown is busy pretending to be conservative, while baby girl is playing the liberal role.
