Meghan McCain: We Need More Gay Republicans! By David Knowles Apr 13th 2009 10:00AM
Here's a question: Can Meghan McCain, the blog-a-lot daughter of Senator John McCain, help bring the Republican Party into the twenty-first century? Well, with her column at The Daily Beast, and during her many television interviews, she sure is giving it a go. Today's screed, for instance, attempts to light a fire under the Republican posterior on the matter of including gay rights in the party platform:
If the Republican Party has any hope of gaining substantial support from a wider, younger base, we need to get past our anti-gay rhetoric. As you can image, the road for gay Republicans hasn't been an easy one. Most find the words "homosexual" and "conservative" inherent contradictions, much the same way so many people can't seem to reconcile fiscal conservatism and the bit-tent philosophy of freedom and justice for all.
Later in the piece, Ms. McCain goes on to point out that supporting gay marriage rights does not necessarily come at the expense of other conservative values, like an opposition to abortion:
Recently, a conservative congressman was quoted saying, "If we don't save marriage, we can't remain pro-life." That's absurd.
She also adds:
So if anyone is still confused, let me spell it out for you. I believe life begins at conception and I believe that people who fall in love should have the option to get married.
So, McCain's argument is two-fold. Supporting gay rights is both pragmatic (the overwhelming majority of younger people support gay marriage) and moral (gay rights are human rights). It's an interesting mix. Part Libertarian, part party activist. The pragmatic part runs aground, however, when we consider the nation's views on keeping abortion legal.

the only way i’d support gay marriage is if it returns to be a holy sacrement, and completely untouched by the government.
then if gays can find a church to get married in, that’s between them and the church.
She is preaching to all the religious liberals and fornication crowd with the intent to further undermine traditional American law, morality and culture.
Great, another Miss Piggy diatribe in Blond! Just what this country needs right now in it’s dawn of Socialism.
They CLAIMED it was about consenting adults in private.
Except the USSC decision legalized same sex relations for minors as well AND for “Romeo & Romeo” exceptions to statutory rape laws (a minor below legal age of consent and an adult within a few years of the minor’s age).
And it isn’t just in private. This is stretching into marriage, same sex couple adoption of children (who do NOT get to consent to be raised in an alternative lifestyle home), indoctrination in schools as to the “diversity” of a pornocopia of sexualities, employers have also had to surrender their rights, churches and the Boy Scouts are at risk of compromise, and the heads of the GLBT task force have urged for an end to the prosecution of those who engage in sex acts in parks and public washrooms (they consider it discriminatory because their protected class get publicly exposed for their crimes and lose employment in the media and public schools, etc.).
Consenting ADULTS and PRIVATE were not the operative reasons for the decision. It was much more far reaching than that and they were well aware of it at the time. “Funny” the decision would come down during “Gay Pride Month”.
Just like fat dumb McCains.
Meghan needs less cowbell and more treadmill.

How appropriate.
The best way to get Mehgan to go away is to stop posting stories about her. By making her a celebrity, she will end up with a show of her own and a large book deal.
Why doesnt Meghan McCain show us conservatives where in the Constitution it says that We the People have to accept homosexuality as being equal to heterosexuality?
The fact is that it says it nowhere. We the People have the right to representation regarding how the state treats issues of sexuality. Meghan McCain is against the People having this right.
***It’s an interesting mix. Part Libertarian, part party activist.***
A true libertarian position would be to take marriage out of the hands of the state. If marriage is a religious institution, which I believe it is, then let it be decided by religion. Personally I don’t believe the law should treat married people any differently than two people who live together, meaning no special incentives or penalties either way. A citizen is a citizen.
Besides, there’s nothing preventing two gays or two non religious people from making a commitment to one another.
What about teachers who fall in love with their middle-school pupils? What about people who are married to other people but they're in luuuuuuuve? What about those pathetic loser women who "fall in love" with imprisoned murderers and rapists? This is a load of sentimentalist crap.
LMAO
Nicely put
The Republican party has already done more toward ‘gay rights’ worldwide than any other political entity.
To hell with that whole Bible thing, eh Meghan?
Megan and her new Hollywood friends are working to purge conservatives.
Ignore her propaganda.
We need to nip this in the bud pronto by letting the "powers that be" in the GOP know without any doubt that Megan is a "not ready for primetime" non-starter whom we TOTALLY reject. Otherwise in four or eight years, she will be the Republican party standard bearer, the "face" of the new Republican Party who we must get behind and elect or else sit down and shut up. By then it will be too late.
One liberal Mccainiac is enough.
The Pravda Media is giving her exposure.
