Morristown, NJ, Tea Party
April 15, 2009 | ML/NJ

I just returned from the Morristown, NJ, "tea party." It wasn't exactly a nice day for it. It was cold, occasionally gusty, and there were scattered showers. Still there was a pretty good crowd on the "Green." The Green was about half full. My guess was about 1500 at the peak and about 1000 when I left. The crowd was sufficiently large that I didn't see a couple of people I knew to be present, and I didn't encounter any obvious FReepers as I walked around. If there were any "infiltrators" they did a good job of staying under cover. The policemen who were there virtually had the day off. A number of the people running to wrest the governor's office from Corzine, including the two front runners, were there and answered some questions put to them by the tea party organizers. Here are a couple of pictures of the crowd.

I brought along two signs.

and

The crowd was obviously less well educated than I expected. I doubt more than 10% of the folks who saw the 2nd sign knew why I chose the words I did.

I would add:

I probably could have used the whole list! It would have been difficult to read though. (I didn't even quote the line I used in full.)

Looks like good attendance. I would have been there but I’m in Little Rock, AR on my way home to NJ tonight. I hope the MSM picks up on this rather than ignores it.

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE.

The AP is reporting that there were "about 300" people there. Am I allowed to quote them when they lie?

About 300 people gathered on on The Green in Morristown, N.J. to dispute the cost of the economic stimulus package.
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/business/Tax-Day-Tea-Party.html

And they have no clue what this was about. We weren't "disputing" anything. Yes, there were a few signs protesting the "stimulus" package like, "Next Time, Read the Bill First," but this was primarialy a protest against Leviathan Government. Hello? AP?

I don't know. What did it say?

the garage was full

I assume that you are referring to the one at the Hyatt. I was impressed that I had to sweat getting a space there.

And BTW, I left around 2PM. Driving home in the car I was listening to Rush who played a sound bite of akaObama Press Secretary Gibbs. He sounded absolutely gleeful that the weather in DC was poor; and then the police broke up the tea parties anyway. Supposedly permits were obtained which shows how much the government can be trusted which is not at all.

One more thing I forgot. They had tee-shirts for sale and, even with the crummy weather, they sold out after about an hour and a half.

One thing sorely missing from all of these Tea Party Pics are any overheads, even if from tall buildings.

Yeah. I regretted not at least standing on a bench, when I looked at my pics. (Especially when I saw that "about 300" report.)

At the Tea Party one woman speaking from the stage said they handed out 1,000 programs so there were at least that many people there.

I didn’t either (1002). I waited until almost the end
to sign the “declaration” as well because the line was so long.

I wonder how many signatures they got?

I tried several times to take pictures of your “He has sent hither” sign, but people’s umbrellas kept getting in the way!

Good job, ml/nj. I’m not surprised that most in the MSM just don’t get it. You may have noticed that the AP thought so little of the Morristown tea party that the writer that they sent to cover it hadn’t even earned a byline - that is, if the person who wrote the story actually was there.
