Beyond Our Wildest Dreams… Tax Day Rochester Tea Party!

This post is going to be a work in progress, as I get photos, videos and personal accounts, I’ll add to it, so check back often.

I started out April 15, 2009, in prayer for God’s protection and for the success of the Tax Day Rochester Tea Party. Wow, did God ever answer my prayers tenfold!

We were blessed with a beautiful, rain-free, sunny day with temperatures in the low 50’s. That’s pretty good weather for Rochester this time of year and did we get a turnout of citizen patriots, beyond mine and Erik’s wildest dreams!

Good job guys! Woulda been there if wasn’t near Atlanta now.
(In a little foreshadowing: government got so bad in NY I left. Funny, now NY gets nothing from me after trying to take everything it could.)

We the People
April 15th, 2009
(the speech I gave at City Hall for the Rochester Tax Day Tea Party)

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

That is the Preamble to our Constitution, and it lays out the purpose for establishing a federal government. A government which runs contrary to those principles runs contrary to its purpose.

Does saddling our great grandkids with trillions of dollars in debt secure the blessings of liberty for them? Does letting companies get too big to fail and then bailing them out promote the general welfare? Is the Department of Homeland Security providing for the common defense when they say that 48% of our country, including me, those of you that chose to particpate here, and our brave soldiers returning home from combat are right wing extremists and potential terrorists when they should be focusing on the real threats to our safety? Does dividing us with class warfare, forcing some groups to pay for the demands of other groups insure our domestic tranquility?

Government, regardless of the parties of the people sitting in it, is too distant from the people and too caught up in the machinations of its own power to listen to regular people like you and I. Our nation was born because the government refused to hear the pleas of its citizens and if there is one message that they need to hear above all others, it is that it is impossible to be free if we do not have economic freedom. It is when government transgresses on the freedom of the people that it risks retribution.

The brave men and women that founded our country didn’t wake up one morning looking to start a war of rebellion. Many of them reluctantly joined the cause, first pleading, almost begging, Great Britain to let us have concessions toward some type of self determination. To his own detriment, the King dismissed them, just as certain groups are dismissing us today.

I’m not a political leader… I’m a regular guy that wants to live his life in peace and quiet, just like you. I don’t advocate a new civil war, I simply want to be heard by the government. The last thing I want, that you want, is brother pitted against brother, American against American. But, people like us need to be heard. After all, it’s still “We the people,” right?
