I recently said something at a gathering of some of my closest friends that made them look at me like I just clubbed a baby fur seal to death with the lifeless body of a cute little puppy that I had just strangled to death with my swastika arm band. What could be so downright unnerving? Did I say I drank human blood? Did I say I was attracted to little children and poultry? Did I say I wanted to desecrate the local house of worship, non-denominational of course, by throwing feces at it and blaming those inside for all the worlds evil? Well, no.
No dear friends, I said nothing of the kind. In fact, all of these things no doubt would lovingly be fought for as our rights by the ACLU. No, I said something much, much, much worse. I said, I dont think that George Bush is a bad guy. Cue the screeching halt of the car, followed closely by the dumbfounded looks of everyone around, and then the deafening silence after a bomb goes off and everything gets all slow-mo and trippy. Then they all came to at once and holy crap! There were shouts of evil, devil, Hitler, His Grandfather helped the Nazis, and the like. WOW. In all of their eyes I had unwittingly just dropped in intelligence to the level of Barack Obamas bowling skill. I still cant believe I said it and I would like to hereby apologize for my ignorance to all my liberal and unfailingly perfect thinking, utterly open minded, and full of nothing but love compatriots.

For those of you who don't know Spike Spencer, he's the English-language voice of Shinji Akari of the (sometimes infamous) Japanese anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Heh. I'm so happy he's not a leftie. I've heard a lot of his voice work.
You need to find some new “friends” Spike...
With his business being in a Japanese version of Hollywood, that might be rather difficult.
There’s a couple of FReepers (yours truly) who encode for Jap fansubs. I didn’t know that he voiced Shinji in NGE. I sometimes prefer subs over dubs but ahem, going back to the topic...
Good piece by Spencer. I e-mailed a Hollywood Freeper as well that it’s in their best interest to hide and bury themselves in Hollywood than come out and be bigger targets. Conservatives can do a lot of damage from the inside.
Still no cure for BDS, apparently.
>Heh. I’m so happy he’s not a leftie. I’ve heard a lot of his voice work.
Cool. What other stuff has he done?
I am a voice actor in the Japanese animation localization (dubbing) industry, and I know pretty much everybody in the business. Most of the people I work with are genuinely sweet, loving people without a mean bone in their bodies. Most also voted for Obama. They, like most people, vote according to their feelings, not the issues, and what they do know about the issues is basically just stuff they heard Jon Stewart say.
Spike Spencer is at the top level of the localization biz, and he’s probably going to take some career heat as a result of this. I’ll ask him when I see him. He’ll never go hungry, though — he’s got too good of a set of pipes. (He’s the voice of 7-11, among many other big clients.)
> They, like most people, vote according to their feelings, not the issues, and what they do know about the issues is basically just stuff they heard Jon Stewart say.
Exactly! A lot of people were stupid enough to fall for that marketing slogan “hopeychangey”.
I encode for some fansubs and sometimes there are some dubs that are perfect. One of my personal faves is the actress who dubbed Gokusen. If you know that chick, tell her I;m a fan.
Really? I just downloaded #215 of Bleach. I get the strangest looks from my daughter's anime-loving teenage friends because I *know* what they're talking about.
I grew up with Kimba (1970).
I could stand Bleach for a few episodes because my younger sister is into it. It’s Naruto I couldn’t stand, but I am aware I’m a minority when I state this. I took my younger brother who’s 12 to Dragonball Evolution and it wasn’t the Goku (Dragonball Z) I grew up with.
I rode an elevator at an anime con and didn’t realize it was him till I got off the elevator.
Awesome!
Though in a lot of anime the theme of “Self-reliance” is showcased as a good thing, and individualism is as well. I think that is what draws me to a lot of it.
