" said he had been openly struggling to reconcile his sexuality with his faith in Chi Alpha"

There's his problem. Faith in Chi Alpha won't get him to Heaven, only accepting Christ as his personal savior will do that. That would take care of his struggle to "reconcile his sexuality" too. I can't find any "reconcilin" to homosexuality in the bible.

The simple question is:

does any campus student group have the right to set the rules for membership in their organization?

The simple answer MUST BE - yes, or else THAT - that they cannot set their own rules of membership - IS discrimination.

On issues of social and religious values, the only “tolerant”, “non-discriminatory” position for a secular public school administration to take is that of an agnostic - neither an advocate nor an opponent, between different positions.

To demand “acceptance” of the political “gay” position in these matters, as an enforceable value standard on diverse student groups, is not a position of an agnostic, not a position of tolerance and not a position of “diversity”, but, in fact, an act of discrimination.

Because Chi Alpha is an independent student organization registered with Cornell’s Student Activities Office, the situation has provoked a reaction from Cornell administrators. “We are very concerned with what happened and we want to make sure this is a campus that does not discriminate in this way,” Dean of Students Kent Hubbell ’67 said.

Any administration that browbeats Chi Alpha for daring to respect biblical values is an administration that DOES discriminate. It is an administration that will destroy diversity, freedom of choice, and a level playing field for all groups.

Oh I am so homophobic.

No you are not.

There is no such thing as "homophobia".

Are you afraid of gays? Didn't think so..

And if there is such a thing as "homophobia" why are "homophobics" treated with disdain? Do we beat up on any other phobics? No! All other phobias are tolerated in society and the phobics are sympathized with - but not "homophobics".

That, in itself, that gays, themselves, don't consider "homophobia" to be a true phobia.

Why the "Homophobia" premise? Because that is the first step to calling it a mental health problem. Next they will move the premise toward "Homomania" or "Homopathic".

And yet, some continue to unknowingly push this premise, for example Rush Limbaugh who says "they call us racists/bigots/homophobes but that's not true"

It is an evil premise that must not be promulgated.

There is no such thing as "homophobia".

Absolutely not true!

Homo -- the same

Phobia -- an fear of ____

therefore, Homophobia: a fear of monotony.

Homosexmisia is a more appropriate word.

Homo -- the same

Sex -- duh

-misia -- a loathing for ____, disgust of ____

therefore, Homosexmisia: Loathing of homosexual sex

So, if a white man, who believes that whites are superior to blacks and other minorities wants to be President of the campus Black Studies Student Group, it would be discriminatory not to hire him? Or if a local Imam, who believes that all women should wear burkas and be subservient to men wants to be president of the student Feminist Group, that would be OK?

Noooo, of course not. That's different. When leftists "discriminate," its a good thing. Rules, regulations, morals, laws, none of these things apply to them. They're above such menial considerations.

There is nothing wrong with this, in the context of the Campus Christian group. Unfortunately, the same principle applies to the student association as a whole. Their “charter” (or whatever they call the equivalent) says that you cannot discriminate on these grounds. You may think that is wrong, but that is what is in the charter. Therefore the campus christian group is in breach of it.

The answer is quite clear. If the campus christian group feels that their stance is right and true and biblical, then they must proceed as they have, and if the student association feels said action is against their charter of incorporation, then the christian group is going to have to forego the funding the association provides. That should be the end of the matter. The student association does not, or should not, have any other way of influencing them.

“does any campus student group have the right to set the rules for membership in their organization?”

Quite so. The most basic liberty, even more important than the right to vote, is the right of freedom of association. Without that there can be no variation, no democracy, no free will.

Its so obviously twisted I think it helps our side out just by being. When I was at University (and that is nearly thirty years back) the only student organisation that actively forbade people from being members based on their race, ethnicity and gender was the Women’s group, who spent most of their time campaigning for “equal” rights!

Money never comes without strings atached.

You use their money you abide by their policies. Wether it be complying with the non-discrimination policy applied to a student club or granting access to Marine Corp recruiters at campus that accepts Federal funds.

FYI - Also need to remember that not all Christian sects/groups view homosexuality as a sin. So we are going to see more conflicts arrising over this issue al,olng with old ones like can a person lead a Christian Goup if their Baptism was not Immersion?
