A tornado headed east down I70 towards the Kansas City speedway causing motorists to jump out of their cars and head for the ditch.
I LOVE tornadoes (except the whole people dying and losing their homes bit, obviously). I’d love to be a spotter/chaser.
Im a earthquake freak myself I tried sell a quake chaser series to Discovery channel but they said it would not work
Yeah, everybody said I was crazy to leave Kansas for CA earthquakes.
I have a suggestion if you'd like to make a positive contribution. Get one of these and hook it up to your truck, wait for the tornado to get close, then head for unpopulated areas with the bait.
One day we worked from 10am to 4am; it was a long day/night with thunderstorms all the time. One tornado missed us, but hit some nearby houses. I remember the radio instructions from the radar operator: Take Cover!
Where? We're in a friggin’ field!!
We could hear the tornado, but could not see it because it was DARK. We had to spot it through the lightning flashes while the rain went right into our eyes...the winds were over 50 mph at that time.
You don't forget times like that.
So, you are the one responsible for all those UFO sightings!
ROTFL!
LOL.....yes we did make one of those too.
We put about thirty lighting units (matchbook sized wet battery and a flashlight bulb) into the interior of a big balloon, then inflated it with helium. We gave it enough lift to get about 400 feet altitude, then let it go.
Just for fun I painted a skull and crossbones on it too.
The first Death Star!

I’m with you Julia. That is always something I would love to try.
At least they don’t have earthquake “season” in CA. I lived in the SF Bay Area for 43 years. Never had the urge to move to tornado or hurricane areas.
Strange seeing all of the cars still going down the highway toward the twister.
I have lived in the SF Bay Area for about 8 years now. So that makes me an expert. Per my highly scientific observation skills, earthquake season runs from about mid-October or early November, until early to mid-May.
I’ve got to add to this and say how much I agree with this! I’ve always been intrigued with the phenomena from back when The Weather Channel would air specials on them. Severe weather is a deep interest of mine, and all we get in WNY is a couple lightning strikes a year (if you don’t count the blizzards, which bore me to tears by now).
Try something safer, like walking across Detroit in Blackface makeup.
I feel the same way about asteroid strikes! And they laughed me out of their offices! Boy will they be sorry when the big one finally hits!

I have lived in Kansas for 22 years. During that time, I have seen 2 tornadoes: one in Nashville, TN and one in Stafford County, VA. Go figure.
I have also seen mile upon mile of hurricane and earthquake damage with entire cities destroyed. Tornadoes tend to take out one neighbor and leave the other untouched. Not good if you are the unlucky neighbor, but I think overall your chances are better with a tornado.
