I love my country.....andd I won't give it up (Vanity)
Me | April 26, 2009 | Me

Posted on 04/26/2009 1:33:34 AM PDT by St. Louis Conservative

I'm tired of hearing the refrain...."the GOP is dead"....and "the country is going down the tubes the way of Western European socialist countries".

I'm sorry, I won't accept that.

I'm willing to bet most of the people parrotting these lines are old, grizzled, bitter men who are cynical bastards to begin with.

Here's the deal.....I'm a 20-something conservative who loves his country and the values, traditions, and institutions it was founded on. I refuse to accept that it is all for naught at this point.

Yes, we lost two VERY tough elections. The Democrats are aggressive in pushing a socialist agenda. I understand that can discourage many conservatives....me included. I just refuse to give up and concede the country that I LOVE!

Common refrains I hear are:

1. Demographics are changing this country and eliminating any chance of a conservative renewal.

A: Well, Irish Catholics not too long ago voted straight ticket Democrat 100% of the time. Blacks were solidly Republican until the 1960s. Are you telling me conservatives cannot win arguments with Hispanic voters to bring them to our side??? Only if we write them off!!!! People who take the demographic argument are making a borderline racist argument. Yes, the Dems have made an effort to institutionalize minorities into government programs, but they are doomed to fail. Let's start winning some arguments! It aint' that hard if you really try.

2. Young people are indoctrinated in schools and universities.

A: Hogwash. Another baby-boomer argument. The students at University of Missouri were NOT a bunch of brainwashed lefty ideolgues. Don't underestimate he power that the booming economy of the 1980s and 1990s had on our youth. There is much less drive to go out and protest capitalism and American icons like there was in the 1960s. Lefty protesters were largely laughed at and ignored by most people at Mizzou. They received the press coverage, but there are NOT representative of the Gen X/Gen Y generation as a whole.

Final comments:

I believe in the power of goodness. America is a special place. Freedom is a universal value. The GOP and the conservative movement et al needs to start pushing this hardcore. The Obama Democrats have morphed into Soviet central-planners, and that will NOT fly. It won't. C'mon, FRiends. I will NOT give up my country to these people. I'm young, and I want to raise a God-fearing, freedom loving family in the greatest country in the world. I won't accept an Obamacized America with central planning and secular progessivism run amok. Sorry, I won't....and I'm not alone.

All you moronic, cynical old nellies can just bother not responding to this post. This is for optimistic freedom-loving Americans ONLY.

God bless all of you, and God bless America...the country I love.

The Republican party can come back in a big way, if they’ll just return to first principles.

Thank you. I’m tired of these d-bag cynical old grizzled FReepers who preach doom and gloom non-stop. It angers me more than anything. I love this country, and I’m willing to fight for it - not just for me, but for my children and grandchildren.

The country is always changing. Do you think the country was the same way in 1870 than it was in 1980? It changes, but we adapt. FREEDOM is a universal value. The Obama Democrats are freedom-HATING central planners. Remember that.

I’m a young conservative, and I’m likely quite a bit different from the youth in the 1960s and 1970s, or hell, the 1950s or 1940s.....but I have strong belief in conservative values and freedom and the traditions and institutions that this country was founded on.

Now St Louis excellent vanity...but I have to disagree with you on some of your listed reasons: Yes in this country we have more minorities and immigrants then before, not saying it is wrong...just that it's a fact..got to uscensus.gov...you will see how the population is changing..

It is true about college and universities, not all but a good portion have people like Bill Ayers as professors..the ciriculum is definately slanted liberal in most schools, been that way for years.

I admire your optimistic attitude and tenacity...keep up the good work.

I’m with you bro. I suggest you watch Mel Gibson’s “Patriot.” There is a lot of correlation in that movie with what’s occurring today. It seems some would rather hide behind their families than fight for them.

You’re falling into the trap that says certain demographics are locked into voting Democrat or supporting socialist policies. I refuse to accept that. I refuse to accept that is set in stone.

The country has structurally changed from the olden days. But moreso, the culture. Gone are those who believed in self-reliance, replaced by the welfare mentality.

We are Re-fi America, where wealth is earned by gaming the money shenanigans.

Nothing is set in stone, ppl change, their ideas on what is right and wrong change, they grow up....hopefully we will see a large resurgence in the future, especially since the OBAMAITES are going to royally screw up this country.

I adimire your attitude.

That is a ponzi scheme that cannot be sustained.

Young Americans may have voted Obama, but they are interested in making money and being successful....they are not a bunch of “social justice” activists like the loser Baby Boomer generation was.

With the amount of free flowing information these days, a system that describe, where those in Washington dole out wealth to a connected few will not fly. It won’t.

I get discouraged like all other conservatives. I cry. I really do.

Deep down, I feel this is a special place and there are too many God-fearing, freedom-loving citizens here to watch us go the way of Western Europe.

I believe in my heart that freedom will prevail. I’ll at least go down with a fight....and I believe there are others that feel the same way I do.

Everything turns around, and I believe you are right...I don't think you can change the college agendas, or the populace...but hopefully we will make them see...I figure all the BARNEY FRANKS in the world are going to eventually get prosecuted and the ppl will care enough to change who they keep voting for...

Been on FreeRepublic for 9 years on and off, seen the country go from one extreme to the other. It's time for it to reverse for the good of this Great Country, and for the good of the citizens.

I am very much a patriot...worked for the government in an LE capacity..I am early retired from that career, for personal family reasons...sometimes we have to put our priorities first, and our children are number 1.

I pray your goodness and patriotism will rub off on others.

It is all well and good to wave your pom poms...but when you set them dowm for a moment, you might read this to better understand the roots of the cynicism of what you call "d-bag cynical old grizzled FReepers",---who might rightly be called veterans of the ideology wars and perhaps laugh when they hear the petulant rantings of a 20 something year old who most likely never even heard of Russell Kirk, much less read him.

A: Hogwash. Another baby-boomer argument.

If I had his mother's permission, I'd put a high schooler online with you who HAS fallen for it all. Hook. Line. Sinker.

And it's not my Brad I'm talking about.

I admire your enthusiasm and PATRIOTISM...please continue to fight the good fight as we're all going to need the youth. (you)

I'd also suggest you DO reach high schoolers, if possible in your life...cuz those kids have NOT been totally indoctrinated. Yet. But time IS running out.
