Mrs. Clinton Can't Defend Patron Saint of Planned Parenthood
Patriot Post ^ | April 24, 2009 | Mona Charen

Appearing before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was confronted in a way she probably wasn't expecting. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., asked the secretary to account for her comments the previous month, when she accepted the Margaret Sanger Award from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "I admire Margaret Sanger enormously," Clinton had said in March, "her courage, her tenacity, her vision ... And when I think about what she did all those years ago in Brooklyn, taking on archetypes, taking on attitudes and accusations flowing from all directions, I am really in awe of her."

I'm not sure what it means to "take on archetypes" (American Heritage Dictionary: "An original model or type after which other similar things are patterned; a prototype"). Perhaps she meant stereotypes. But it is worth pausing to consider, as Congressman Smith did, that the Planned Parenthood organization (of which Sanger's American Birth Control League was the predecessor) and the secretary of state continue to regard Margaret Sanger as an, if you will, archetypal modern feminist.

Mrs. Sanger was certainly a birth control pioneer. But when you examine the totality of Sanger's views, you'd think modern feminists would blanche -- at least a little. Sanger was a most thoroughgoing racist. "Eugenics," she wrote, "is the most adequate and thorough avenue to the solution of racial, political, and social problems."

Sanger wanted to care for the poor by basically sterlizing them out of existence. Typical lib compassion.

Not surprising that Hitlery’s hero held some extremely disturbing and odious beliefs.

Hubris is a clintonian and leftist trait, doesn’t flinch at human manipulation of human life.

Feminist and Marxists always overlook that little part of Sanger's philosophy that called for the elimination of blacks, cripples and general undesirables.

Just like Dr. Kervokian, who wants to use his "Death Machine" to purify the human race, is not a problem for the Left.

I still think the more damning comments are in her book “The pivot of civilization.”

Many still believe that. On rare occasion I've heard some libs talk openly about it, generally when they don't know my politics. There was some open talk about it recently when Freakonomics came out and posited the reduction in crime in the 90's was due to abortion. IMHO, the main reason libs champion subsidizing abortion for poor people is they think it will reduce crime and poverty.

I read in a Sunday NY Times Magazine article years ago that Margaret Sanger was disguested by the Irish and Italian immigrants who lived in tennements in New York City. She was an all round bigot.

It is a book by Margaret Sanger. In the book she compares human beings to plants. Blacks and other ethnic groups are compared to weeds and whites are healthy plants trying to protect their gardens from the weeds.

Its brazenly racist.

I remember that from her bio. She practiced in the tenements and really hated the Irish and Italians.

I wish that Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J. would have drilled down WAY more agressively on Hillary Clinton, kind of like the way liberals always attack conservatives. Nice start, Rep Chris Smith R-NJ, but then it looks like you allowed Hillary to rephrase & redirect the question instead of going after this liberal bigoted hypocrite. Here was your chance to put Hillary on the hot seat & light a fire under her.... and you let her off after one question. Par for the course....liberals get off with barely a scratch & deflecting to their heart’s content, and conservatives are grilled & hammered repeatedly.

Well at least Hillary was spared from having her mother's doctor stick a pair of scissors in the back of her skull, although that might explain the lack of a brain.

Hillary Clinton championing a back alley abortionist.

Given her odious views one would think Sanger supported abortion but the last line in the article states otherwise:

Anyone for a small irony? Margaret Sanger hated abortion and called abortionists "blood sucking men with M.D. after their names." Perhaps someone can ask Secretary Clinton about that at the next hearing.

Part of Clinton's solution is to promote abortion, which she calls "women's reproductive health care." Anyone for a small irony? That sounds like a powerful argument to use in court against Obama's plan to take away the freedom to be an MD and to refuse to do abortions. That, and
I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy.

It is ironic that the Secy of State of America's first black president would be honored in Sanger's name...

great observation. with all the bullsh$t, innuendo and obfuscation, I never EVER knew that was even part of the Oath.

Please continue to hold the simple truth in front this simple age.

This I find thought provoking. How did Planned Parenthood come to become so pro-abortion, and why? Was Sanger's legacy "co-opted?" And how could a eugenicist oppose what to her must have been a useful procedure?
