Crist approves of Jesus, cross plates
Created On: Monday, 27 Apr 2009, 5:11 PM EDT
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Charlie Crist says he would approve license plates with the image of a cross and an image of Jesus if they make it to his desk.
The two plates are scheduled to be voted on by the Florida Senate but have been controversial. The plate that depicts a cross and the words "I Believe" is the subject of a lawsuit in South Carolina. Florida's American Civil Liberties Union says both plates violate the separation of church and state.
Supporters argue denying the plates is also unconstitutional. "If people don't want one they don't have to buy one," Crist said Monday. "What does it say, in 'God we Trust' on every piece of monetary coins and paper we have? I think it's fine."
At least Obama and Dept. of Homeland Security will be able to identify enemies easier now.
ping
Just eggsackly where does it say that? Just askin'
I was kinda wondering the same thing. ; )
I have said it once and I will say it again, state governments have no business issuing plates with ANY message on them other the the name of the state. If someone wants to send a message let them buy a bumper sticker or a license plate holder that has a message on it. The state should stay out this.
when will he sign the heritage plate too.
At the moment it is in court because of him getting pressure by NAACP and liberals who know nothing of history
Great headline.
BTW, why would any license plate offend you ???
the reason we have messages on the plates is to raise money for that cause, for instance the choose life yellow one is there and every time someone gets that plate the anti abortion gets money to their cause.
I am wondering though every time I see a family first plate is that a statement to say traditional families?
my question too
the heritage plate is in court right now and is getting flack from the left like the choose life one did.
I see it as a distinctly law enforcement matter. The appearance of any State’s license plate should be distinctive and readily discernible. Florida is a perfect example of how it should NOT be done. Often the key to solving a crime is information from a witness as to the State, and possible the number, of a vehicle’s license plate. Florida has about 70 different plates these days, making it difficult to determine the State, let alone a number. The combination of numbers and letters can make it very confusing.
It’s not a big deal, but I don’t see any advantage to purposely designing plates that make it difficult to tell what State they are from or the license number. IMHO.
Ole Charlie wants to run for Senate seat. He has to pretend to be conservative for a while. If’s he’s elected he will return to being a Democrat again. He’s not a RINO, he’s a closet Dem.
It amazes me how ignorant Americans and their elected officials are regarding the First Amendment. There is nothing to “approve”. The 1st Amendment is absolute. It reminds me of the recent CT gay marriage law which “exempts” religious institutions from participating. No such exemption is required. The 1st Amendment guarantees their freedom from it. It shows how far down the road towards tyranny we have traveled that these battles even have to be fought.

** ... violate the separation of church and state
Just eggsackly where does it say that? Just askin’ ... **
My favorite was ...an acquaintance used that term (church/state), so I asked him... “Where is that in our CONSTITUTION, I seem to have missed it there... But, If I’m not mistaken, I think I may have seen it in the Constitution of “THE OLD SOVIET UNION”... that was about 15 years ago.. hasn’t spoken to me ... since!!!
I told her to go ahead and give me this one as "I'm sure it will cause a few heads to explode as I drive around town". :-)
how about other groups?
with the exception of sexual obsenity, the PROCESS is very content neutral. If you have the signatures, they will sell the plates.
Of course those that object to this plate also object to the scouting plate.
