I know many of you here today are single payer advocates and so am I
and those of us who are pushing for a public health insurance dont disagree with this goal. This is not a principled fight. This is a fight about strategy for getting there and I believe we will, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) told a group of government-run health care supporters on April 18.

I like my private health coverage. Does that count for anything?
They won't...neither will the UNIONS
ZeroCare - the RAT final solution; an alternative way to implement in the US the equivalent to the Stalin’s solution to the Ukraine
I expect to see some of the stronger health care companies focus on augmentation of government programs..
Under a government program many hospitals and medical providers will start taking huge losses./go out of business. Guess a lot of people will go to work with the government as contractors. No way the governments can hire enough to handle the claims.
- why not insurance?
They'll be as successful at insurance as they are at banking. And don't you just luv, luv, luv the department of motor vehicles?
the major difference between now and HillaryCare in ‘92 is that so many employers now are so sick and tired of the shuffle...the 40% rate increases, the months spent shopping for a more affordable plan, the lower benefits and higher premiums that come with any new plan they can afford, their employees being ticked-off at them no matter what they do...most businesses I fear have flipped sides and decided they want the Feds to take this cup from them, no matter what the cost.
Not just no but hail no.
Probably all true. Doesn't matter. Right now, Medicare is essentially under-written by private insurance companies. Medicare pays whatever the government has stipulated, which is never enough to cover the actually costs of the service (let alone any built in margin), so the health care provider makes up for the loss by charging the private insurer more for the same procedure.
Once medicare is expanded (which is essentially what the Dem plan will be), eventually the costs to the private insurer will be so prohibitive, no employer or employee will be able to afford coverage - so the system collapses just as the Democrats planned all along. The only alternative is a single-payer system. And as you point out, a the inefficiency of anything the government does will lead to less doctors, less nurses, less hospitals and less health care availability which brings us to the rationing that we see in other western countries with socialized medicine.
But, it's impossible to put the genie back in the bottle, so it will be a mess that we're stuck with probably forever.
That will surely happen - LATER. First, get all the sheep in the plan.
Don't accept the premise that the best health care system in the world is broken.
Besides what would all the Brits and Canadians do.
Agreed, but health care costs have been so artificially inflated by government mandated free services for illegal aliens, "poor people" and blood sucking lawyers that most people of average means can no longer afford even the simplest procedures. We need to get the lawyers and government out of health care.
Exactly. The DemocRATS’ idea of rationing healthcare “to keep costs down” is not healthy for Americans.
Isn’t that the point?
I like my private health coverage. Does that count for anything?

No. Polls showed that over 80% of Americans were satisfied with their health care coverage.
That’s what I thought, and I say to “hail” with that.
How is "single payer" different from "monopoly"? I thought monopolies were bad(?) Maybe not if the king is named "Obama"?
People have the idea that they can ask for whatever they want and have the gubmint pay the tab. Won't happen. Never has yet.
You are right, that is there intent and hopefully will incite people to take to the streets. This will not be good.
