Remember Bush 1 was an opponent of Reagan. He used to attack Reagan’s tax cut as voodoo economics

One Bush ended the Reagan Revolution...

And Jeb Bush ended Terri Schiavo.

Bush 41 gave us the KKKlintons.
Bush 43 gave us Obama.
Keep out da Bushes. They have ruined this once great country.

However, much later at Reagan's funeral he said he learned more from Reagan than any other person in Washington.

“New ideas” like gay marriage, abortion on demand, and so on? Or is there some “new” economic plan that will work better than low taxes and less regulation?

People need to be educated on “old ideas” because they WORK.

Yes, the old ideas work. And that's why they are called "conservative".

However, the mechanisms by which you put those ideas into play change with the times and political situations.

Reagan was a powerhouse in the Cold War and he should be taught as such.

But the nostalgia Bush was speaking of isn't healthy for the current age in which we have a WOT. New rhetoric needs to be employed as the younger generation moves into the future.

Jeb’s grand-pappy, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan’s Vice President.

WTF? Why can they get facts correct. He is the son of GHW Bush. I just don’t get it.

I'm thinking this media yokel has confused Jeb with George P. -- 'cause you gotta know, that kid is just waiting his turn at bat.

I follow long with your logic until you get here.

“...there needs to be new ideas presented to the young for this new age.”

No there doesn’t. For the last 230 years, we have merely needed to explain the old ideas well. That continues to be the case.

If we don’t mention Reagan, who will?

we have merely needed to explain the old ideas well.

Exactly the point. And that includes adapting them to current problems being faced which will give hope to the young.

If we don’t mention Reagan, who will?

Reagan is passing into history. And if we get new, fresh standard-bearers who articulate conservatism for the future, Reagan will continue to live on with his positive legacy.

However, if conservatives sit in nostalgia looking only the past and let the Rats rule in DC, those Rats will over time trash Reagan's name.

The “Reagan Revolution” ended 20 years ago.

Time to start a new one and quit whining and blaming. The title of this thread sounds like a DU piece: Bush’s fault!!

Can we please grow up and start looking forward?

He should have engaged al qaeda and not pulled out of Lebanon... but hind sight is 20/20. Those two (the one you mentioned) and granting Amnesty were his only major faux-pauxs... but he trusted the dims... just like when he trusted tip to cut spending. Like I said... hind sight is 20/20.

It is the MAN'S ideas and philosophy that must be taught to these younger people... and teach them of Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington and the Constitution and of what each represents. That is why we can win with Reagan... because Reagan had the vision and the plan and newt and the boys blew it bigtime when they had the chance to actually finish the job. They started out doing really well... but then DC and the beltway disease struck them down. I can quote Reagan on all of this if needed. This time we must get it right... and I mean RIGHT!

Reagan taught us how to talk over the media... and Palin has learned that well... and we can get that message out over the top of and in spite of the media.

I feel their foreign policies were worse

The fact Bush 1 did not march into Baghdad was because of the agreements that were made while building the fragile coalition that fought with us.

Taking Iraq was verboten with almost all of our coalition partners and would have precluded us from doing what we did to take back Kuwait.

To this day I think Bush 2 was allowing the press and the Democrats too much say in the fight in Iraq and thus allowing them to almost lose the objective of trying to help them build their country back up without terrorists.

He finally realized that if he did not take back control from the Dims Iraq would be lost and the Dim takeover in our country would have occurred sooner.

The "Mission Accomplished" thing was, and still is, taken out of context completely and is used to denigrate him when he was trying to thank those warriors on that carrier and their Task Force.

I believe both Bushes were rather bad Presidents and said so during both of their terms in office, but they did do a few things right. A stopped watch is correct twice per day unless it is a 24 hour watch.

However, I don't think he's Satan”

I don't think he is satan either, but then I think we need Reagan a heck of a lot more than we need any Bushie. It's tie for the Bushies to go grow tomatoes or something..or if he likes Jeb can run for the US Senate in Florida. They seem to like him there. But for president? No way.

yes, all true enough..........BUT we need the right man(or woman) to articulate this and present it, to lead others to this viewpoint and to run for president. I do not think we have seen this person yet.....I hope he/she emerges soon. This person will need a fresh new presentation with these same points.....and he/she will have to be younger....have we not learned that running old men will not win for us? Notice GW looked like a young energetic man when he first ran. I pray for this, as we are headed to hell in a hand-basket today.
