Ron Paul's Influence Grows
The New American ^ | 2009-05-06 | Charles Scaliger

lthough he officially abandoned his presidential bid last summer, Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s star continues to brighten. Once shunned by the mainstream media and marginalized by the national leadership of the Republican Party, the modest pediatrician-turned-congressman has become something of an éminence grise these days, feted and fawned over by the likes of Fox News, which once dismissed him as a quack.

The reason? Dr. Paul’s unexpected fundraising prowess during his presidential campaign turned more than a few heads, and the bestseller status of his book The Revolution: A Manifesto attracted further attention. But besides the growth of his Campaign for Liberty and the swelling ranks of followers, recent events have proven Congressman Paul right time and time again. What once seemed to those with no understanding of so-called “Austrian economics” as dour paranoia has turned out to be spot on, as the Mother of All Speculative Bubbles has imploded.

A funny thing has started happening to Paul since his long-shot presidential campaign ended quietly in the summer of 2008. More Republicans have started listening to him.

Ping!

My problem with him is that I listened too much.

It would have been interesting if his message came from someone with a better delivery. While he was right to be gloomy his style just isn’t going to win. But if you find someone with that message who can deliver it in a positive manner you will have a winner.

I just love it when people who consider themselves to be reasoned, adopt the talking points of the left.

Haters? Good grief...

Ron Paul doesn’t have the charisma to win. His views has a better chance if he teams up with Palin. Educate her about his views

Conservative Libertarianism, yes. Ron Paul as the leader/spokesman, no.

Ron Paul is way too kooky, and he earmarked himself $400M in Porkulus.

***Bachmann recently took both Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to issue on the constitutionality of their actions.***

What a great clip that was. Geithner is a joke. A tax cheat that says we’re going to go after tax cheats. He can’t even come up with an answer as to where he gets the authority to do what he’s doing. Most people at least would have said the Interstate Commerce Clause or the Necessary and Proper Clause (though they would still be wrong). He just stumbled and sounded like a moron.

I’m glad to see Bachmann taking an interest in Austrian economics and Thomas Wood’s book, Meltdown. Hopefully we can get some more people up there that don’t blame this crisis on capitalism. And hopefully they can make the case that we haven’t really been practicing capitalism for a long time.

I tend to agree. I feel like in all the clips I watch him in, he tries to say too much. Obviously I understand why, but it males it difficult to convey a single point strongly. We need a Daniel Hannan IMO.

Say what you will but when the Nov crash came, Paul proved his prescience.

And why would the leadership (or whoever) approve these earmarks. It doesn’t make sense to me. They know he’s going to vote against the bill so why not give that money to people who are actually going to vote yes? The money is already appropriated so I understand why he submits requests (though I wish he wouldn’t), but why are his requests approved?

well,he is right on some things, would be great in a cabinet post,he is not presidential material. I will always remember people being corralled by the media, that mccain was a contender and I can’t help thinking they will start early to do it again. They are setting up,or will set up a conservative/libertarian that will be CRUSHED in a general election, and laugh at us till the cows come home. They used a moderate first, but resistance is growing against moderates,no matter how much they push it,so the logical thing is to give us what we think we want instead of what history and common sense say we need, someone who talks the talk and can’t win,we need new people who can win!

My problem with him was giving aid and comfort to the enemy...otherwise I am a bit libertarian (small l)and a bit conservative. Individual freedoms being paramount, but not necessarily during times of war.

Ron Paul doesn’t have the charisma to win.

What does that say about the frigging idiots who vote for a candidate that has charisma instead of a known track record... Voting for charisma is what got the country Obama.
