Obama Reverses Stance On Immigration

Obama reverses stance on immigration

Co-opts policy he once mocked

By Stephen Dinan May 8, 2009

On the thorniest of political issues, President Obama has embraced the enforcement-first position on immigration that he criticized during last year's presidential campaign, and he now says he can't move forward with the type of comprehensive bill he wants until voters are convinced that the borders can be enforced.

Having already backed off his pledge to have an immigration bill this year, Mr. Obama boosted his commitment to enforcement in the budget released Thursday.

The spending blueprint calls for extra money to build an employee-verification system and to pay for more personnel and equipment to patrol the border.

This security-first stance is not unlike that of President George W. Bush, Bush Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, who said their immigration bill failed in 2007 because voters didn't trust the government to be serious about enforcement.

"If the American people don't feel like you can secure the borders," Mr. Obama said at his press conference last week, "then it's hard to strike a deal that would get people out of the shadows and on a pathway to citizenship who are already here, because the attitude of the average American is going to be, 'Well, you're just going to have hundreds of thousands of more coming in each year.' "

Republicans say the shift is a sign that Mr. Obama, who during the campaign repeatedly called the issue a priority, is uncertain how to move forward.

"I don't think Barack Obama understands the immigration issue. I don't know that he has spoken about it in any depth during his entire political career," said Rep. Steve King of Iowa, the top Republican on the House Judiciary subcommittee that handles immigration.

I hope I don't have to document this again,I can if need be, but the true number of illegals as of a few years ago was 38 million. 36 million illegals and 2 million visa overstays,if you need documentation I will dig it out.

If you could please, dig it out, I would appreciate it and I will save it, too. You can take your time, there's no rush. I would love to have the info available though.

I'll take your word for it, Rod. No need to go digging for your references again.

38 million. That's the population of a whole country.

CONG TANCREDO'S CONVERSATION WITH JUAN HERNANDEZ Juan Hernandez is a dual US-Mexico citizen---he heads up the Mexican govt's "Ministry of Mexicans Living in the US" (he was MacCain's Hispanic outreach man).

Hernandez told Cong Tancredo that the Mexican govt is plotting to increase the flow of Mexican nationals into the US..........to serve Mexico’s needs:

(1) to increase $50B a year remittances (30% of Mexican GDP);

(2) to secure US employment for an exploding Mexican population,

(3) to alleviate mexico's social instability;

(4) to force US taxpayers to provide free training and college degrees to Mexicans who are expected to return to Mexico with these skills.

Mexico desires amnesty b/c millions of Hispanics tied economically, politically and linguistically to Mexico can exert enormous influence on US....that means billions of US tax dollars transferred to Mexico. US citizens will be forced to subsidize another failed foreign government.

==================================

THE LATEST RIPOFF The bogus Mexican "drug war" is creating a new class of illegals pouring in, claiming "persecution" to gain entry. The Mexican gov't is coaching its citizens-----as a way to suckoff working class US taxpayers and collect US govt freebies. Social Security provides financial aid to these "refugees."

Keep in mind these people never paid a dime into the SS system; yet, they can collect seven years straight and get extended payments if they are politically well-connected. The SS checks to these "persecuted refugees" can amount to $1000 a month...... and more. Some are wealthy nationals whining about "persecution" in order to collect.

If this is true then it makes me sick to my stomach. Our son graduates High School in a couple of weeks and will be attending college in the fall and we have no idea how we ill pay for it. We should not be expected to pay for illegals when we can't even afford to send our own children. What about not leaving our own children behind?

This comes from former Fed. Prosecutor James H. Walsh in his book the "Social Contract: Illegal Aliens:counting the uncountable."

Walsh is a former fed. prosecutor and US-German/Marshall Fund scholar on immigration, widely held out as an expert on illegal immigration.

This is basically a 2007 report based on data to 2005 so you can extrapolate from there:

Walsh's estimate of 38 million illegal aliens residing in the u.S. is calculated, however using a conservative annual rate of entry(allowing for deaths and returns to their homelands) of three illegal aliens entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. His estimate includes apprehensions at the Southern border(by far the majority),at the Northern border,Gulf Coast and at seaports and airports. Taking the DHS(Dept. of Homeland Security)average of 1.2 million apprehensions per year and multiplying it by 3 comes to 3.6 million illegal entries per year;then multiply that number by 10 for the 96-2005 period, his calculations come to 36 million illegal entries into the u.S. Add to this the approximate 2 million visa overstays during the same period, and the total is 38 million illegal aliens currently in the US.

Yes it is. But the important thing about all this is that the number 12-20 million that is bandied about,libs using 12 and our side using 20 is way off. The real number needs to see the light of day.

Walsh also has other documentation that helps show just how "conservative" his figures are. And since this info is several years old, by now who knows just how many there are. Add in birth rates, a couple of more years at 1.2 X 3 million and the overall conservative nature of the estimate to begin with, and it would not be out of the realm to guess that we could have between 45 and 50 million now. Our population is 300 million, if we have an addition 45 million that are illegal just think about the strain on social systems, law enforcement, crime, etc etc. its almost incalculable.

Pols are sucking up to latinos----they figure they will have a permanent majority via the latin vote. Latino's "Dream Bill" is being pushed thru Congress from as far back as 2002.

EDITED Dream bill could become nightmare
LAURA INGRAHAM (LAURAINGRAHAM.COM), 2002

When most people think about the American Dream, family, hard work, God and love of country come to mind. But if immigrant-rights groups and their supporters in Washington have their way, the dream will also include lawbreaking.

A bill called the DREAM ACT, the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act bill would make it easier for states to offer in-state tuition rotes to illegals at state colleges, and also would grant students lawful residency upon graduation from high school if they had lived in the country at least five years.

The problem is that for each slot an illegal immigrant takes at a state college or university, it is one less spot for American students or for immigrants who have followed immigration laws and procedures. There is a national trend toward bending the rules to allow greater access to education for illegals.

Virginia's Republican AG Jerry Kilgore wants no part of it. In 2002 he directed VA public colleges not to enroll illegals. And get this--he also told the institutions to report illegals they discover on campus to federal authorities. The horror! Kilgore is right.

Since Sept. 11, all universities nationwide should be doing everything they can to help the ICE track foreign students, not create problems by looking the other way when illegals attempt to take advantage of benefits designated for those here lawfully. Yet our federal government is on the verge of giving state universities the green light to do just that with the so-called DREAM Act. COPYRIGHT 2002 News World Communications, Inc. Rod, the America we so dearly love is now being attacked from every quarter. With the ascension of Obozo and his radicals in congress, it’s become a virtual steamrolling of the republic, for which we stand.

It’s getting so I can’t even keep track of all of the attacks against us. It’s overwhelming.

There’s only one cure for it, and that is a massive, and widespread rebellion against the forces that are crushing us. It can still be accomplished, but the dark forces are becoming stronger with every passing day. The hour grows late.

I know it scares the heck out of me.

The only possible counter I have come up with yet is to tank his numbers.

If we just let Dems be dems they will self destruct.

If we can document and get our elected reps to sound off at this guy every time he(his adm.) screws up and do the numbers--Newt said 9 trillion in debt today on tv,we can tank his numbers.

If his numbers are tanked his movement is toast.

Remember his support is a mile long but only an inch deep. Once his favorablities are below 50% his followers will defect and he will become a lonely community organizer again.

I just want to be prepared. At Christmas time we were at my sister in laws and her husband pipes ip about Bush, blaming the financial mess on him. I told him that Bush had tried to warn Congress but they wouldn’t listen. He all but called me a liar. I hadn’t memorized dates and such, therefore I was stating untruths that couldn’t be backed up. I was so mad.

Its a long process, but after a while you can debate any lib anywhere after what we learn here. This place is second to none, IMHO.

I agree that this place is second to none, but I can’t memorize it all. Worse is that they don’t except certain sources like FOX. If CNN doesn’t report it, it must be a lie.

The illegals/drugs news we get in Arizona is generally criticism of Sheriff Joe Arpaio for following the law and supporting his officers.

Our major newspaper is liberal to the max. An article a week or so ago on him revealed the town he lives in!

Only reason we keep subscribing is for the excellent comic strips, puzzles. As soon as I get DSL, that's gonna change :)
